Electric Fan

I have a 71 Camaro with a small block 350, I would like to install and electric fan. Does anyone have any type of recommendations?

Thanks

Re: Electric Fan

Search electric fan on here and you will see many threads. Most of them detail the problems they have when they switch from the tried and true factory cooling system of original shroud and clutch fan.

NastyZ28 is a second gen site that I also belong to and they have many articles on what electric fans and aluminum radiators they use. Big thread on the plastic tanked alum radiators available from AutoZone and also some stickies on how to mount the Taurus fan in a second gen.

Re: Electric Fan

I was recommended this for my 450-475 flywheel horse L31-R (Vortec 350) that's going in my '87 El Camino.

Here's the link:https://www.etrailer.com/Radiator-Fa...le/D16927.html

I don't have it finished yet so I can't verify......take a look and do some research.

Re: Electric Fan

Like Doug said, or a 2 speed fan from a V8 thunderbird or Cougar from the 90's. Probably several other 90's Fords also but the T bird/ Cougar shroud fits great with minor clean up.

I have a 90's T bird 2 speed fan, the temp sender from a 90's BMW 3 series and a 90's Volvo 2 speed fan control relay (assembled as detailed by onovakind here on the site, with some switching of my own) and a BeCool aluminum radiator on my car, it works awesome and I think it looks great, fan fits the rad nearly perfect. (Mine is a 68 camaro, but the probably not a big difference in yours)

Parts cost was $50 from a pull a part, another $20 maybe in aluminum and wire, etc. and a day in the garage. I can leave the switch in 'auto' and let it run, and it keeps my 600 +/- horse small block at a rock steady 180 regardless of outside temp. All factory parts you can buy at Autozone if something fails too.

Re: Electric Fan

Taurus fan is different Doug. It's a smaller fan and shroud than the Lincoln or Cougar/T bird fan. A Taurus fan fits almost perfectly on a stock sized small block radiator, and the Cougar/T Bird fan fits almost perfectly on a big block radiator. Both work well.

Here is the stock 3 core and the Taurus fan-

Here is the Be Cool big block size radiator and a T bird fan, Volvo relay mounted on lower corner-

And the BMW dual temp sensor mounted. You have to tap a standard NPT plug for metric threads, that's the hardest part of the job. It has to be tapped straight (ask me how I know...lol)-

You can see how the Taurus fan sits off center of the shroud, it worked fine but the fan is smaller and so is the opening, the T bird fan is bigger over all.
It moves a ton of air and is really pretty quiet.

Re: Electric Fan

I used the old 4th gen f-body fans on mine. One fan usually keeps my 383 at 170 but if it gets hot I will use the second fan. Never runs over 190 with both fans even in 100 degree heat.
