70 Hugger Orange Z28-For Real?

A dealer has a 70 Camaro Z28 for sale that is purportedly an original Hugger Orange car. Over the years I have seen where Hugger Orange was available as a special order color on 70 Camaros and Chevelles but have yet to see a real documented car. Can the Pros on here take a look at the trim tag on this one and see if its for real. The website with a pic of the trim tag is 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 RS 4 Speed Hugger Orange LT1 V8 350 CID/360 HP For Sale San Luis Obispo, CA Zubes.

Thanks, Larry

Re: 70 Hugger Orange Z28-For Real?

My brother had a 70-1/2 Z28 / RS, but I am no pro. I'd be wary, it has the RS split bumper, but not the correct RS front end that goes with that bumper. The RS has that additional pc around the nose, its about 2" long. Wish those pic's would blow up so we had a better look at those details like the rivets not being correct on the tag

Re: 70 Hugger Orange Z28-For Real?

Selling this for my customer/friend. Here's more photos that you can blow up.

He's had the car for a number of years and he just came by today with notes from previous owners before him along with some extra original parts (air cleaner, exhaust manifolds, brake booster, misc parts. He also has a laminated window sticker which I can't verify if it is real or not. I will post it and the rest of the photos of the parts tonight he brought by along with his notes of which parts are original to the car, etc. on the link provided above. This car may not be 100% original for the purists out there but it has a lot of original parts and there's no doubt this is a real hugger orange Z28.

Since I am a new member I cannot post link. Go to our website and I have over 150 photos of the car which you can blow up

zubesimportauto.com

Click INVENTORY on red banner. Click on the actual Z28 photo and the gallery will pop up. If you want more pics, closeups, etc. let me know. I'll be more than happy to rack the car or take better photos. The car is BITCHIN and runs like a dream.

my bad, now that I can see the pics blown up, you can see the RS nose that goes with the split bumper.

It looks very nice!

Photos of the window sticker, original parts identification #'s, and extra parts included with the car. I have yet to find a comparable '70 Z hugger orange 4 spd car for sale right now. If anyone knows of please post it on here. Thanks.

Re: 70 Hugger Orange Z28-For Real?

Hugger Orange was definitely an optional color for 70 Camaros... See this page of the 1970 Camaro Brochure..

and here is one I owned around the 1980-83 timeframe...

As far as the window sticker goes, it's a reproduction riddled with errors. Not saying anything about the car's authenticity just being specific to that 1 document.

Current owner didn't claim this to be real and I certainly didn't either. This was part of the paperwork that was given him to from the previous owner. It is laminated and looks to be pretty old but I realize that doesn't mean anything. I will let him know that it is a fake. For my own knowledge can you please tell me what errors let you know that it is a Repop?

The reason we don't get descriptive or go into depth as far as the discrepancies go, is to prevent unscrupulous people from creating documents that do not have errors and who may present them as authentic.

I respect that. I will make a change to my ad listing and put that the window sticker has been verified as a fake. Appreciate it.

Nice info in the pics on your site and nice car. Looks like a fair price to me and a great car for someone.

Re: 70 Hugger Orange Z28-For Real?

Back to my original request and based upon the dealers own comments, then its not a real Hugger Orange car. Right now there are no less than five 70 Camaros on eBay and Craigs that are claiming to be Hugger Orange. IMO I bet there weren't much more than five original Hugger Orange Camaros ordered back in 70. The fact is that very few buyers and most dealers also were not aware of the special order colors for performance vehicles. My guess is that the special order for a specific color was intended for company vehicles to match a company color scheme and only a few knowledgeable performance Dealers and users were aware of its existence for performance vehicles.

Where does the dealer say it is not a hugger orange car?
