Rear Disc Brakes

Anyone know if Wilwood rear conversion will alter the offset? I can't get any closer to my outer fender than it is now but really want rear discs.

Thx

Re: Rear Disc Brakes

The only difference will be the thickness of the drum center compared to the thickness of the disc center as it sits on the axle flange. They could move a little either way but probably not much more than 1/8" .

Re: Rear Disc Brakes

No it should not make a difference. I put Wilwood rear disc's with internal parking brake on my 69 and there is no difference from stock. However, the fronts disc's do go out 1/8".

Seriously? Guess we could call the Chevy dealer for Camaro questions then we wouldn't need this forum eh?

Thanks Andrew...I don't have much room to play with and they state a min of 15" wheels but nowhere do they address the offset. On my 69, I didn't notice and difference but the kit of course is different for the 70.

By the way, did you go to Myrtle Beach this past week to Run to the Sun? Lot's of first and second gen Camaros there!

Re: Rear Disc Brakes

Same on my 69. The rear was fine. The 70 Z28 already has disc on the front, just adding the rears. Several manufacturers of these kits but it seem Wilwood rises to the top when asking around. They make them in black as well which is a good thing...'ll replace the rotors and calipers on the front at the same time.

Appreciate it buddy, hope all is well with you.

Craig

I did not attend the Run to the Sun but hope to go next year. It is about a 5 hour drive for me. Not close but much closer than must folks here.

I have measured the plate thickness of drums from a 1967 Camaro and a 1967 Camaro and got a thickness of .101" for each. Get Wilwood to give you the same measurement from their rotors and you have the answer you seek providing your '70 drums measure he same as the earlier models.

If the rotors are thicker they won't be by much. This is the only thing that makes a difference in wheel location between drums and discs.

I think you're safe to just go with it with little concern.
