Crank turned on me when I was changing the timing chain?!

I have a 1970 302 turned into a 383 when I was changing the timing chain the crank turned on me when I was trying to get the gear off what should I do I am new to this and I don’t want to mess up this engine. Any help would be very nice

Line up the marks on the timing gears and put the chain on. Stock crank gear only has 1 keyway and is set up at Zero

Yes, I agree. After chain is installed,
IF camshaft mark is at 6:00 o'clock and crankshaft is at NOON, then Cyl #6 is at TDC for rotor pointing at #6.
IF camshaft mark at noon and crank at noon, then Cyl #1 is firing.
