1978 Camaro Dimmer Switch Replacement

My lights have been acting up and after doing a bit of research/trial and error, I'm pretty sure the dimmer switch/hi beam switch needs to be replaced. It's one of the floor mounted ones.

I'm trying to get the carpet up to loosen it, but don't see a way to do that without cutting the carpet, which I'm not trying to do. I've been told it's held down by hooks but that's not visible from what I see. Another option is to remove the kick panel which requires taking out the e-brake pedal, and from the research I've done, seems like a pain as well given that there are apparently bolts beneath the master cylinder that I need to loosen first (the kick panel does need to be replaced though).

So my question is, how exactly do I go about removing this dimmer switch and replacing it?

I have a 79, should be the same. I just loosened the kick panel, didn't remove it, pulled the carpet back and replaced the switch. Was a pretty quick job. I've also replaced the carpet and don't remember any kind of hooks.
