Need More Power!!!

Ok, Ive had my 94 Z for about 2 years now. Ive done Cat back exhaust (magnaflow high performance cat and flowmaster 40 series), Summit Street n Strip twin 58mm throttle body, rebuilt tranny and added a shift kit, and cold air intake....Ive run out of ideas...now Im not sure what I want to do next...what would give me the most "bang for the buck" at this point?

Re: Need More Power!!!

you can try underdrive pulleys, as well as a tuner chip and if you have the money a supercharger

Re: Need More Power!!!

If you dont have to deal with emissions where you live then put a set of long tube headers on there. If you do what gears are you running? Since you have an Auto it looks like Im guessing you have 2:73s. Put a set of 3:73s or if you want to be a little more conservative 3:42s. They will both give you a seat of the pants difference over the 2:73s.

Re: Need More Power!!!

I had the same car with headers, 3.73, hypertech, cold air. it ran awesome. the gear was the best thing I did. If you drive it everyday I would go with the 3.42. the cheapest way for more power would be gear, cam and nos.

Re: Need More Power!!!

most A4-equipped Z28's had 3.23s (if your shifter shows the '1' you have them)
M6 cars had 3.42s

a 58mm tb is a waste until you hit much higher power #s

the biggest difference will not be gears in an A4 car (in an M6 sure)
it'll be a higher stall (2800-3000) they aren't cheap but the difference is just astounding (from a drag racing p.o.v. that is)

as far as bolt-ons after the CAI you should look into 1.6 rockers, headers (another huge gain), under-drive pulley set, and tuning (don't use one of those crappy hand-held things, hypertech is only good for shift point changes) then gears (my .02)
weight reduction, suspension (LCA's, relocation brackets, torque arm)

always do the basics first then if you decide to do heads/cam or a power-adder you're ahead of the game

12-sec daily driver LT1's are so easy to build and very inexpensive (LS1 little higher initial cost for car but almost too easy hehe)

good luck to ya and have fun

Re: Need More Power!!!

definitely looking to do gears, cam, and better heads...BUT...motor has 190K on it...original block, pistons, and heads...had rings, lifters, rod bearings replace at 150K...would it be alright to put better heads on the motor OR do I need to build up the lower end first?

Re: Need More Power!!!

Best bang for the buck performance mod is spray. I gained 1.5 sec in the 1/4 from 125 shot spray. You just need to put all the safety features on. I have had good luck with mine but some people blow there engines with far less.
