02 SS with 21,000 mi.

Should I flush and change the antifreeze since it has been in the car 5 1/2 years. I bought it new so I know it hasnt been changed. It still tests out at 40 below zero but I dont want any corrosion to start. Also the trans fliud ?

Re: 02 SS with 21,000 mi.

Yes you should. With it not being driven much it not really any different than driving it when it comes to your coolant. You don't want it to become acidic and cause corrosion problems in your engine. Being it's an LS1 you should take car of this as the any of the cast or iron parts that are in the cooling system help this along.

Your trans can get moisture in it, although very little and one of the things our oils and lubricating fluids do are retain moisture as part of the protection along with lubrication. For the minimum cost involved I would change it out also. I would also think about getting it out and running her to full temps and roll through the gears. keeping everything lubricated and seals in oil are good things. You may want to lube the chassis also until old grease comes out and then wipe off any excess. This will get moisture out of these areas also.

This is something I go by. If I change oil every 3 months or 6000 miles and don't put on that 6000 miles, I change it anyway. usually only an oil change if it has sat most of the time. The rest I keep up with typical maintenance intervals just as normal. It might be over kill but I think it's worth the extra effort. After all you still pull it and clean and detail even when they are not driven much. I see the rest as the same kind of maintenance.
