serios help please

my friends 2002 camaro z28's clutch pedal goes all the way to the floor. the reservoir was empty. i was told that this happens maybe once in the life of the car where the hydrolic throw out bearing fails. now we need to tow it to a repair shop. the car was worked from front to back with custom cam to full 3" exhaust and headers. it also has a racing clutch i believe it is spec 1 ? correct me if im wrong on that one. is it possible that the extra force to engage the clutch is too hard on the stock bearing? and what is the average price to replace?
thank you all
Steven

Re: serios help please

It probably blew out a seal in the slave cylinder, and if it is the original slave and it has some serious mileage on it, it may have been due for replacement anyway.

Might want to pop over to www.ls1tech.com/forums and search "throwout" and "slave". There's quite a bit of reading on these components and mods to them to match other mods. If it's just the slave and he can have it replaced without removing the trans (required if the whole throwout assembly must be replaced), it's not too outrageous.

Re: serios help please

The spec stage 3 is the street/strip. THe stage 4 is a strip clutch. I have heard problems the some of the spec cluctchs welding themselves together.
With it being an '02, it should already have the new throwout and hydralics, and the throwout should have come with the clutch. Another thing to check is did he do the drill mod? There is a restrictor in the line from the master down. It can cause problems. If the throwout failed, your would have fluid everywhere.

Re: serios help please

my friend had this problem with a 2000 model, he had to buy the hydraulics new. I am not sure but I think the 01 and 02 model had upgraded hydraulics where you werent supposed to have to do the drill mod.

Re: serios help please

My Clutch Slave Cyl gave out on my 97 SS with only 65K on the Clock ! ! it was fun taking that sucker off ! ! thats the one by the pedal itself .. not the easy one thats on the Tranny........ Good luck if thats what wrong with yours.

My symtoms on my clutch was .. if I pushed my clutch pedal in I would only have about 2 seconds to put it in gear and let go of the Clutch otherwise it would'nt go in or If it did go in .... it would want to take off on me even though I had the pedal to the floor.. And the pedal would stay hanging and I would have to tap the pedal with my foot and it would slowly make its way back to the top . !

paid 63 Dollars for the new part... She runs perfect now !

Re: serios help please

well the repair shop said that the bellhousing was full of fluid. so he thinks the t/o bearing is toast. he is also going to replace slave cylinder just to get ahead of maintenance. btw the car has only 20k miles on it.
