Re: window problem

they usually get really slow then stop working. you will probably have to replace it, then they have a kit that directs power directly to the window motor that helps prevent them from going bad

Re: window problem

Window or Window Motor? There real easy to replace! I just put new windows motors in mine what a big difference they are much faster. When the motors are getting old and going bad they slow down and trip the curcuit breakers then You know You need motors. You can buy the motors at any part store. Just drill out rivets to remove motors and replace motors with bolts and nuts that come in the kit.

Re: window problem

Hey guys...I know this is an old blog that I am responding to, but have been reading other owners with 4th generation cars who had problems with the auto window motors.
Someone please level with me. I just acquired a '99 SS with very little mileage. The previous owner had the car laying-up for most of it's life.
Is it in fact true that these motors do not last long? Is more a problem with over useage than the reality the motors are weak or deficient? Mine seem to work okay for the time being. I plan just not using the power window "excessively", if I can help it.
Surely the factory would have been on to this and maybe issued a recall notice to owners long before now.

thanks,
Doug

Re: window problem

Funny...no...GM doesnt have many power lift motors, the Camaro's have long been famous 1970+ for the single side window look. I think that they re-use a parts bin window motor designed for a celebrity and try to apply it to a long door camaro and the lives are short.

I have owned a 95 Z28, 00 TA, 98SS, 96 Camaro and had to replace windows on all. I had an 02 Z28 with manaul crank that was the only F-body I did not have trouble with.

It is just part of owning a 4th gen.

The 1995 Z28 drivers window went out on me with 36,004 miles...dealer denied claim...so I figured it out.

NAPA window motors seemed to last longer than Autobones...no hard data to support, just my opinion.

Corey,...try goine to the Camaro web-site, "shbox.com/page/windowmotor.htlm" for full instructions, with pics on how to change-out the motor.
Just passing along info I received from another forum member.

Re: window problem

Edgar;...sorry just noticed your inquiry made a couple weeks ago to me seeking information about the website "shbox.com/page".
I tried (unsuccessfully) to access the site as I gave to you last time.
I was able to access the site by typing "shbox.com/page"; that gets you to the mainpage, then you can navigate (look for) the window blog.

Good luck,
tblazer

Re: window problem

be careful sometimes its the regulator not the motor. the worn out regulator kills the motor. my 01 z28 had window problems and it was the regulator NOT the motor

Re: window problem

My 02 Z28 started doing that with the passenger side window a couple of years ago. I just don't roll it down anymore. It's on it's 3rd motor and I've had the power cable changed out to the one that directs power to both motors through 2 separate cables. Thing still doesn't work worth a damn.

The drivers side has been fine except this past winter it started making noise when you roll it up.

Car currently has 62,xxx miles on it. It's my daily driver and still runs like a champ. I figure when the drivers side window fails I'll take it somewhere and have them fixed.

Sorry I'm not much help, but I figured I could commiserate with you. You're not alone with this. I've had 4 4th gens and the only one I didn't have a problem with was the 96 Z28 vert (bought it new) that I traded in on the 02. Probably wasn't old enough to start having problems. OTOH, it did have a problem (fixed under warranty) with the power window switch on the drivers door. It's always something...
