Stage 1 of upgrade...

So my newly purchased 02 z28 conv. is completely stock, but i want to throw in a few hundred bucks to get the essential pampering this baby deserves. So i'm guessing what EVERY new LS1 should be first dressed up with is CAI, some lid (i'm thinking MTI vs SLP ???), 50 or so bucks on cleaning supply... I can't seem to compile a list. Any suggestion on what i should start up with?? Thanks guys.

Re: Stage 1 of upgrade...

this is my opinion: before trying to 'upgrade', make sure everything is operation and good first. what maintenance has it had? oil & trans fluid and filters, brake fluid, pads and rotors, coolant, diff oil, fuel system? are these up to date? what about the belts, tires, and other rubber parts? what about wheel balance and alignment? my 01 c5 just took 2500 bucks in warranty work and 1100 bucks in regular maintenace at 60k miles, and that's not even hotrodding. there's no point in my mind of having a new CAI with old diff oil or a leaky seal somewhere or trying to make more power on old tires that don't stick very well to begin with. after all is good, i'd go for the intake, exhaust, and computer tuning. just my opinion. good luck and let us know what you decide!

Re: Stage 1 of upgrade...

Oh wow, thank you for the response. I changed oil 400 miles ago, with mobile1 synth, checked my fluids. Use 93 octane (whenever i can find it around, otherwise stick with 91)...aligned tires and balanced.. what i haven't done is flushed my radiator or anything. When i bought the car the rear two tires were raped, pretty much have tear marks. I never changed them, and threw them in the front. I guess i need a set of wheels. Thanks for the insight....
