Re: Anyone have production #s 1987

I believe they made 600 'verts in '87. Checkout camarosource.ca and thirdgen.org. It is a very rare car, especially because of the 5-speed. If it is decent, buy it.

Re: Anyone have production #s 1987

Well, there were only 1,007 convertibles made in 1987, and they started as T-top cars and converted by ASC. The data I looked at shows 744 of those 1007 as either Z/28 or IROC-Z. There are some more breakdowns based on the option packages it might have, but you'd have to get and post every RPO code on the card in the console. It should also have a 20th Anniversary badge on the dash.

What's cheap? With only 1,007 made, any 87 vert is rare.

Re: Anyone have production #s 1987

Is cheap $4-$5k for a car with 89k miles????
Again I am a car guy I have 2-67 camaros so when I say clean I mean cleeeeaaannn!!!! No wear marks on seats/dusty engine bay/great paint
pefect top.
It is sticked on the side with the IROC logo but I did not pay attention for the badge an anniversary car of any sort.
We plan to go back and get the vin# and put it on a lift to see under side.
Any more input is helpful. Iwill post what I find out.
If only we could but cars and store them somewere for 15-20yrs
I wouldn't need my 401k

Re: Anyone have production #s 1987

Ya. Good deal. You can probably make money on it at that price but the real money will be in a few years. One thing you should be aware of. In 1987, there were two types of 'verts built. One was built for the factory and the other was built after the car was delivered from the factory. You will be able to tell by the VIN number. Aklso, check to make sure the 20th anniversary pouch is on the passenger side of the dash as this will be a sign it is a factory convertible. Still would be worthwhile picking up if it was a post sale conversion as they were done by the same company using the same methods but it will not be worth as much when these cars do become collectibles. At 4-5K - BUY IT!!!

Re: Anyone have production #s 1987

Another thing you have to remember - 1987 was the first time you were able to get a Camaro or Firebird as a 'vert from the factory since 1969!

Look inside the console for the rpo sticker. It is a rectangular in shape and is usually on the passenger side of your console. It will have all these three character codes printed on it in black. Unlike your '67, the newer Camaros had every option the car came with identified on that sticker (God I wish '69's had that). Take a digital camera with you and then snap a few close-ups of it. Email me the pci and I can post it here for you and then tell you everything that car came from the factory with.

If you see the code "G92" on the sticker, close the console door, get out of the car, turn to the owner and say "I'll take it".

I'm excited for you as well! PLEASE - No kickback. We are here to help out other Camaro freaks! You can return the favor by helping out another member here on TC someday. Looking forward to seeing your pics when you get back. Send them to my e-mail and I will fill you in on what you just bought!

Try and get it for $4,500. Can't go wrong at 5K.
