1996 Bose system high-pitch hiss. Help?

Hi all,
My 96 has the BOSE sound and it always had a high-pitch hiss that wouldn't go away, even when the system was turned off. When the factory CD-player died, I replaced it with an aftermarket head. The hiss is still there. Anybody else had this problem and know where to start looking? I'm not running any amplifier, just plugged in the new head unit and it sounds fine, except when it's OFF. It doesn't matter whether it's set on CD, radio, or AUX.

AS soon as I open the doors, the hiss stops.

Is it a hiss or a whine? Ide start by checking all my grounds...MAKE SURE they're tight to a piece of metal with the paint scraped off.

Without knowing precisly what you're hearing it's hard to say. It's difficult to keep audible noises out of power and ground feeds. One of the most typical ways noise gets into a system is through the ground. For example, if your stereo's ground is shared with a noisey counterpart (like the ECM for example), the counterparts noise components will ride on the ground and couple into the radio.

I'm not sure what I can offer you since I don't know exactly what you're hearing. You might try some fuse pulling to see if shutting down the ECM for example makes the noise go away. You might be able to install a noise filter on the power or run an alternate ground to decouple the noise.

Maybe install an RF filter from Rad!O shack in the ground wire for the head unit. That may fix it. I would look at all the grounds also...
