turbo help?!?!?!

i have a 94 lt1 z28 and i decided to go with the sts trubo kit. it says you can run 7 psi stock and not hurt your motor, well i want to run 12psi and was wondering what i need to do to the internals of the motor?

Anything help!

Re: turbo help?!?!?!

Seven psi of boost on a regular compression engine is about the limit before detonation. You must also retard timing, I think 1* for every lb of boost.

Any more boost pressure and building the short block to have 8:1 static compression ratio is the norm. Also, having a boost-referenced fuel pressure regulator is essential also. More boost, more fuel. Having the air intercooled helps in reducing combustion temperature to thwart detonation.

Just my thoughts. Maybe other experts here will divulge their knowledge.

Re: turbo help?!?!?!

intercooling is a must for turbos, as they use hot exh gasses to build boost...hot air charge makes detonation easier, and a very big nono...a boost timing master would be a good addition, as it will pull timing thru a boost referenced port...carb or fi???as everett said, 8 or 8.5 to 1 is a good place to be for a boosted motor, and you may be able to achieve that with a blower grind cam, as the lsa will help to bleed off compression...the guy to talk to would prolly br camcojb...he`s a moderator, and has a lot of force fed experience...most of my experience is with 1 procharged 383...but most all the same principals apply...

Re: turbo help?!?!?!

10.5 is too much for 12 lbs imo...post in the performance section with a cam reccomendation to lower your dcr to a more usable (like 8`s ) comp ratio...i`m sure jody or tim or pdq can give you some suggestions...not even sure you can bleed off that much comp...
