Question New shift plate??

My Z is a factory 2.73 car. As such, it has the shift plate that shows "Park-R-N-OD-D-2". It's my understanding that I can remove my console and, with a simple modification, make 1st gear available with the gear selector. So far so good.

But, if that's true, then I would like to get a new shift plate that shows the 1st gear selection. Does GM still make such an animal? Or is it available elsewhere?

Re: New shift plate??

I think your only option if you must have a number by your first gear is swap out the center console for a 98+ console since they didnt lock out first gear on those years. Here is a pic of one on ebay right now. Me I liked having the hidden gear in my 95 TA, not that I used it much except for letting everyone know I was coming down the block.

Re: New shift plate??

Interesting. It's my understanding that the 3.23 geared cars had a different shift plate that showed the "1" on it. I just don't know if that plate can still be had or not.

Thanks for the link to the e-bay auction. But it's gray. My console is black. Yeah, I could dye it, but that's not my first choice. Maybe later.

Another shift plate is not my first priority. I'd just like to have it. I'll keep looking. Thanks!
