Intake for 1993?

Alright, so I haven't been here for more than a couple minutes, but I have a question. My car is a 1993 and the mass airflow sensor was different on it as opposed to 94-97's. So my question is will a cold air intake that works on 94-97 work on my car. My friend who knows what he's talking about for the most part thinks it won't work due to the difference in the MAS. I belive him, but I'm just looking for a second opinion...and maybe a few more. Also are the intakes from say summit or jegs really worth the $200-$300 or will a $30-$40 intake from Ebay cut it. I mean if there's really a difference then I'd like to get the better one, but people say there isn't enough difference to matter. Also are there any alternatives? Maybe a homemade one? Thanks...

Re: Intake for 1993?

It wont matter which one you buy because they all ONLY go to the MAF sensor....none of them actually go from the filter to the throttle body...so...your friend is a moron...and If you really wanna try a homemade one, your better off just buying a $50 special cuz thats how much your gonna spend...Just buy an Ebay one and slap a K&N filter on it.

One more question for you guys, If I get the ebay intake is there any chance of throwing a code? I don't really like the idea of having my check engine light on all the time...especially for something this small. Thanks.

Re: Intake for 1993?

No it shouldn't throw a code. The 93's don't have the MAF sensor but the intake kits usually have the extra coupling pieces for the 94-97 cars which you won't need to use. Look at the Ebay kits closely to make sure they reach down into the lower fender area for the cooler air. Don't use a kit that puts the filter up in the engine bay which will be full of hot air.

Re: Intake for 1993?

Alright, thanks for the help. I ordered a two piece intake that goes to where the stock intake box sits and then goes down. Thanks again.
