1996 Camaro SS

Hello,

I'm looking to buy a 1996 camaro SS. It has low mileage (less than 15,000). It is in perfect condition and has been well taken care of. What would a fair price to pay for it be?

Thanks

Re: 1996 Camaro SS

It's a fairly rare car as only 2,410 SS Camaros were built in 1996. It might be worth less but I personally would pay 8 grand if it was mint and a 6 gear. If you start getting into the 10K plus price range, it's time to start looking at the low mileage LS1 cars.

Re: 1996 Camaro SS

I don't know anybody with a real 96 SS with 15K miles that would be asking under $10K so expect the price to be in the $10-14K range.

Re: 1996 Camaro SS

I got $10k for my '96 Z28SS auto and it had over 40k on it. I'm inclined to agree with Jeff...

Over a year ago, it was nice and clean but not 15k miles and mint. Any car with such low mileage is more than the owners baby and a '96 with 15k miles wasn't even driven 2000 miles per year. Sellers always place a higher value on their cars and a car like this the seller usually doesn't have to get rid of. I have seen low mile 3rd gens listed in the $18 - $20k range. In many ways it's just like the classics with respect to selling, the seller can set his price and even though you or I don't agree someone will have to have the car and it will sell at close to what the seller wants. How do you think classic car dealerships manage to stay in business? Around here they get $5k more on most everything they list than you or I might find reasonable.

This isn't really a comp but it shows what a clean un-mollested '96 might be worth and supports what I am saying... And only from March 2008...

Found out a little more, it actually has roughly 7,000 miles on it and it is the fully-loaded 6-speed.

He has not put a final price on it. He is looking somewhere between 15 and 16,000.

That's a tough decision there. You could get a nice LS1 SS car for that price range but they made a lot more LS1 SS cars so they may not hold value like a 96 SS might. I sold a 96 SS hardtop with automatic and 86K miles back in 2006 for $7500 but it wasn't 100% original or mint condition either. I paid $13K for my current 2000 SS with 33K miles and it's an automatic as well. I've seen some 6 speed 99-2001 SS cars with under 50K miles in the $12-16K range just to give some rough idea. If that car is really in mint condition with all the paperwork it might be in the right price range. But if you plan on putting some miles on it then you might want to look for something with more miles and a lower price.

Re: 1996 Camaro SS

I guess it all depends on what you want to do with the car. Like Jeff said, 16K buys you a lot of LS1.

Re: 1996 Camaro SS

I would sell My 96 SS #373 Leather and loaded A4 with 78K on it and in close to mint shape for about anything over 8K if I was in the mood to sell it. If I went to buy something for 8K I wouldn't get anything that nice to drive
