help with a 92

So I find a 1994 z 28 for sale $800. The currrent owner says the auto transmission slipped while he was accelerating and the motor over reved wich broke the timing chain and serpentine belt. I am just wandering what all could have been damaged when this happened. The oil does not have any antifreeze in it, and the trans fluid smells a litle burnt. I know the tranny is pretty well shot but i think IF the motor is good it may be worth fixing. What do you guys think?

Re: help with a 92

If the timing chain broke then a valve might have made contact with a piston. Then again maybe not. You may have to take a few things apart to tell what may have happened.

You could try turning the engine over by hand with a valve cover off to see if the cam spins which would move the valves. No movement = chain is broke (mosat likely).....
