Stange Engine Noise

I got home this afternoon and noticed my car making this weird engine noise. It kind of sounds like a bad bearing but it sounds like it is coming from under the intake. Could this be a bad lifter? ? ?

The engine is stock, with 130K miles.

Re: Stange Engine Noise

Are you talking about the whining noise if so it sounds like a vacuum leak... If your are talking about the rough sounding chutter it could be a bad cam bearing/timing chain...

Re: Stange Engine Noise

Sounds like it is 1/2 of crank rpm.My first thought is a failed roller lifter based on the audio.Flat needles trying to roll on a round axle.

Re: Stange Engine Noise

Got it! I was moving around the engine trying to listen for the noise, when I leaned on some vacuum hoses and the sound changed. It turned out to be the rubber elbow that connects to the PCV valve. The rubber was really soft, and had expanded so the fit was very loose. I zip tied it around the nipple on the PCV and the noise is gone. Looks like a trip to the parts store tomorrow.

Thanks for the help.
