Anyone Removed The Timing Chain Cover On A 3.4 L????

I was wondering if any of you have some tips or advise for pulling the timing cover. I need to round up some longer bolts for my puller tomorrow to get the balancer off. Manual says to drain the engine oil before cover removal. I have the front of the car jacked up, so will that be necessary? Can the cover be removed without dropping the oil pan?

Oh yeah sorry I forgot that. 1995 Sport coupe, 3.4 V-6. Coolant leak between the housing and the block.
