Serpentine Belt comes off 2002 Camaro v-6 often

The tensioner seems strong enough. New belt doesn't help. Can visually see that the tensioner pulley is not in perfect line with the other pulleys so the belt edge rides forward a bit close to the rounded edge of the front of the pulley instead of centered on the pulley. Is this common? Belt comes off if you hit the brakes hard or run over a large puddle and some times it seems for no reason. Chrysler had a similar problem with their Caravans and Gates came up with a different pulley that had a raised edge so the belt wouldn't slip off.

Anyone else have this problem? Fixes?

Not a real common issue, figure out why the pulleys don't align and fix it. Then install a new belt and move on...

My son had that problem with his 98 3.8L. The belt came off a couple of times. Looked like a design flaw to me. Replacing the belt seemed to keep it in place... for a while.

Close to half the Camaros produced from 1998 - 2002 had the L36 V6 in them. As well many other GM cars used the same engine. It would not be very likely there was a design flaw that caused the belt to come off. There are known issues like the upper intake manifold problem but that's another story...
