ZL1 #59 Coming to B-J, NO RESERVE

Hard to imagine letting one of these go at auction with no reserve !

"It is an original matching-numbers vehicle with extensive documentation, including the original Window Sticker and owner’s history. The seller says he went so far as to track down the original drivetrain – which he located in 1971 – to reunite it with the original body."

I see it had a reserve on it at that time. Doesn't make sense to me, but I've never had that kind of money anyway....

its a 2 way street (buyer & seller) on the 10% commission so BJ made $140k on that sale....assuming there wasn't a "get r done" deal BJ made to close the sale

I’m sure BJ cut seller fee to 1% or less to get the car to auction in 2018 and there’s a deal working this time. Chances are it a zero seller fee deal so the seller could shill bid up to desired price without risk.

yeah BJ very likely had a "deal" in place with the seller. Typical back room negotiations on the high $ stuff

Very typical to negotiate the commission down while the car is selling, but it works better if they are trying to get the reserve removed.

Yes but BJ is pretty much No Reserve so if they want a Special car in the auction to draw attention to the auction and attract buyers they will make a deal with the seller to cut fees.

Re: ZL1 #59 Coming to B-J, NO RESERVE

I have never known Barrett-Jackson to cut it's fee from the seller. Even to the point of the sale not happening when cutting the commission would have made the sale. Other auctions do at times but I have never known of Barrett doing it.

They don't cut the fee during the auction like Mecum in order to make a deal.

They make deals with sellers to get them to consign their cars. High end cars and collections.

Re: ZL1 #59 Coming to B-J, NO RESERVE

I am friends with the 2018 seller and he reminded me in 2018 that I am the one who had him buy that car years ago from another friend. I just spoke with him on the phone and he assured me he paid full commission.

I believe it was a Reserve Auction in 2018.

Per the discussion on the Yenko Site it did not have the original engine in 2018 but now it does?

Quote:
Read one story where the car and engine were re-united in 1971... at least I think it was this car.

So they were separated a second time and re-united after Jan. 2018?

Anyone know the story?

Re: ZL1 #59 Coming to B-J, NO RESERVE

I think it did have it's orig. engine but I can easily forget stuff such as being reminded that I was the guy that told the 2018 buyer to buy it years ago.. Not sure why it wasn't stated in 2018 but weird that it now states it. The seller just bought it so I don't see how he bought the engine in 71. Confusing.
