Craigslist PA 69 X55- whats it worth?

What would a good price range be for this? Non-numbers matching car. 10 year old resto on frame (paint, engine, etc) some sheet metal work (trunk, floor pans). Has small bubbling on bottom of doors. No docs or paper work. it is an x55 4sp. thx

Here is craiglist post
69 Chevrolet Camaro SS. 350ci Engine, 4 Speed Muncie transmission. This is an X55 trim tag car, real SS car. Power steering, power disc brakes, center console. Original Cortez silver color car. Recently restored interior, as you can see it is very nice! This Camaro runs excellent, cruise it anywhere, and enjoy the attention! Please message or call with any questions you may have.

Re: Craigslist PA 69 X55- whats it worth?

Paint bubbling is not a good sign. Just figure the repair costs into the price.
Very possible there is more body/rust repair needed but without a personal
inspection it's tough to know. The pics are too small to see anything so here's
a link to the CL ad. Not much info there. On the surface asking price isn't scary.

The bubbling paint is concerning but not necessarily a show stopper. He's about right on the asking price. I would offer $25K and see if they bite, but expect to go back and forth and end up at $29 or $30K. I wouldn't pay any more than that! It is a nice looking car. Use the non matching #s motor and bubbling paint as bartering leverage.

Paint bubbles are usually the tip of an expensive iceberg.

The wheel tire combo looks odd. Maybe 18/20s?

No Heater hoses. Bad heater core perhaps or?

Radiator doesn't look right. Hacked to fit IMO

Would need to personally inspect before considering an offer.

good spot on the heater hoses. seller stated the previous owner did not drive in winter in PA and he never connected them. Not sure, but in any case, the only way to check the heater core is to connect it...correct?

I'm lousy at car purchases but I'd offer $20. From what has been pointed out already and additional items I saw that I dislike I don't want to be over $25.

Beside the radiator and heater hoses I saw the wrong color booster, missing rocker spears and black out. The alternator belt is at the end of it's travel meaning another item I'll have to address. That known rust bugs me a lot.

I would pressure test the heater core before I ran coolant into it.

Pretty sure the power steering hoses aren't routed correctly. It might be just the pic or if the
car has headers they can interfere causing a strange installation.

What would be a safe air pressure to test the heater core? At one of my cruise nights and old time mechanic mentioned to me "very little air pressure or you'll break it".

16 psi. Same as the radiator cap rating. Maybe a few #s more.

You can also use a vacuum pump and confirm it holds

You can be 99.9% sure that heater core is bad if it is not connected. Sellers story is nonsense imho.

Re: Craigslist PA 69 X55- whats it worth?

My 69 vert started getting door rust bubbles 20 years or so due to being our second car and lived outside, always a southern car. Now 41 years later the rust has not progressed and it lives in a climate controlled building. I have thought about repairing but never got around to it. The rest of the car is rust free. Moral of the story rust takes a long time when out of the elements and does not necessarily mean it is a deal breaker, but it needs to be looked at for further rust. I would say the majority have rust somewhere and can be fixed. Low $30's seems reasonable if not a disaster in rust.

Kind of agree.
My car has it's pea size "signature" bubble at the rear window corner for over ten years. Of course it's inside the garage and I make sure to add extra wax to the area. One of these days I'll get to it.

Wax does not stop rust! I have heard that many times, wax protects paint and makes it shine!
