New guy

Hey guys,

Just joined the site. Got a 68 that I have had for 20 years. About 14 years ago, I started disassembling the car to restore into my dream car. As luck would have it, I became a father at about the same time. Took the wind right out of my sails. Now the boy is old enough to actually help with the project. I intend to make this a father / son project. Right now, the car is an empty shell. The garage space that used to hold the 327 and PG that came out of the car has been cleared out to make room for the 396 4speed combo that is going back in. The stock rearend has been replaced with a 12 bolt unit with 4:10 gears. I have the subframe out of the car to repair rust at the body bushing mount locations. Will likely go back together with disc brakes up front. No sense in going fast if you can't stop. It will be challenging trying to remember where all of the bolts go that I removed so many years ago. I will probably be asking lots of questions. Wish me luck!

Re: New guy

Hadn't really planned on it. My son has a school band competion in Richmond, MO on Saturday and a couple indoor soccer games on Sunday. He keeps me pretty busy at times. I really enjoy going to the big shows like that. You can pick up some good ideas by looking at other peoples projects. It can also be overwhelming to see how much money can be spent on a vehicle that you know will never be driven. I am definately after a driver. I owned a couple different camaros in my youth. One of which was a factory BB 4 speed car. At 18 years old, I had no concept of the potential value of the car. I spent all of my time drag racing it and repairing all of the things I broke, which was plenty. After a while , I got tired of the car being broke all of the time and sold it. I don't remember what I got out of it but I am sure it wasn't much (sickening!!!!!). I will still never forget the brute torque of the BB and the wonderful exhaust sound. That is the direction I am heading with this car. However, this time I am going to spend more time driving it like a sane human being and less time fixing broken parts. Those parts are getting harder to find and more expensive these days. I also have a couple 67 GTO's that I picked for less than a grand each back then. Good luck trying to accomplish that today!!
