Smile Posting of numbers

Hi All,

Iam a relatively new member with a 69 Z28. I was told early on that it can be a good idea to post trim tab, VIN data, etc on the site for future problems, help with verification etc.
I have no problem with that and have always thought that what I have is the real deal, but you never know. Also, if my original M21 was to be out there somewhere, maybe I would find the match.
How do I go about this...Thanks PH

Wink Re: Posting of numbers

While it generally very safe to post your info on this site, you might want to try a PM to Kurt ( https://www.camaros.net/forums/member.php?u=366 ) or one of the other CRG guys to review the info and tell you what they think of it first.
Ramdom posting can sometimes get you a responce you didn't expect ...

Re: Posting of numbers

Just dont post your full VIN number and you will be ok. I XX out the last 3 or 4 digits to be safe. But you can post your full trim tag safely. The trim tag just contains the details of the car like color etc.

Re: Posting of numbers

Tim there are 2 schools of thought on VIN numbers. Ive not heard of anyone having an issue with posting the full VIN in here or at CRG either. VIN's are readily visible thru windshields and for the most part cars sold on Ebay and carsonline and Craigs list show full VIN too. Anyone can make up a VIN if they are up to no good.
Full VIN's also allow an owner to narrow down the build date of their car as well when compared to their body build date on the cowl tag.
I guess, personally I wouldnt worry about a posted VIN myself so I wanted our new member to have 2 perspectives.

I totally agree Jim
I've posted several of mine and had no problems what so ever
I always like to give someone an alternate avenue to use if they show some hesitance.

I've heard of two vehicles showing up with the same VIN before, but it was due to paperwork errors - not 'stealing' the info from this or any other site - and was quickly cleared up. I'm sure it "could" happen, and maybe has, but you should have the documentation on your side to show ownership ...
