Thumbs up First time Camaro owner is in the house

Whats up everybody?
I have recently divorced the "lifted truck and offroad enthusiast lifestyle" for something more fulfilling and respectable. For the last 8 or 9 years, I've been married to the same chassis on 3 different trucks (99' Toyota 4 Runner, 99' Tacoma xtra cab, 99' Tacoma TRD xtra cab) and no matter what the body style was, it was still the same old chassis, same bumpy ride, same everything!!!! About 5 weeks ago behind the wheel of my lifted 99' TRD Tacoma driving down the freeway, I caught myself lusting over a 2-tone (Deep purple / Black with silver flake) 1968 Camaro SS that had the hood taken off to reveal a fully chromed out 350 with a 4 barrel Holly carb, which happend to be driving right next to me for about 15 seconds before the owner opened that baby up and cut me off to make his exit. It was only after he dodged in front of me and zipped off the freeway that I realized he took the exit I was supposed to be taking also!

4 weeks later I sold my truck and purchased a 1990 Chevy Camaro RS with the 5.0L V8. I looked around at quite a few earlier models at first but decided to take a took a look at the 3rd generation with the "squared off" body style and immediatly realized that was the one. So thats my story and I would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions on what I should change/replace first regarding the engine/tranny/electrical. It has 121,000 miles on it, 4 speed automatic trans and the t-tops roof. I'm a fairly skilled mechanic/fabricator however my experience is mostly limited to trucks/sandrails/buggies and baja bugs. Well thats it for now, I'm looking forward to a long and happy Camaro relationship.

Re: First time Camaro owner is in the house

Welcome aboard!
I've always liked thirdgens, had a couple friends with them when I was younger, one a t/a, the other an iroc, both nice cars.

First things first, as I'm sure you well know, is the usual old used car "once over." Fluids, filters, tuneup. Safety check, steering brakes and suspension. Clean. Lots of clean. Inside, outside, and underneath.

You should be busy for the next month. Check back, ok?

Re: First time Camaro owner is in the house

Yep, it'll keep me busy and I'll be checking in on here very frequently. I've already got the days lined up for the next 2 weeks when I'm going to perform all the maint. including a new paint job (i wish i had room for a fullsized paint booth so i could do it myself) & upholstery. Could you point me into the right direction regarding a reliable and trustworthy, online auto parts site(s) for my RS? Maybe a good mail order catalogue? Thanks in advance.
