Why NO Street Racing Videos

I have been viewing this website for some time now and was visiting a friend who is a member. We saw a post come up in OFF TOPICS regarding Street Racing. We clicked on it immediately and watched a short video of street racing. Yes, Street Racing is illegal and yes it can be dangerous; however, I see nothing wrong with posting this and when we went back in to show someone else it was gone - deleted - apparently by one of the Administrators or someone who has the "authority" to do so. This is a website for car enthusiasts and I have seen some other pictures and videos on the site that are not exactly "right". For example, pictures of women - more than half undressed - posing on cars and in cars, etc. Yes - I am a woman, but perhaps I find that distasteful. What do women who are almost naked have to do with the cars and the technical questions, etc. They are posted in OFF TOPIC, but to me it is not necessary to this website, some members are female, so why are those not deleted off. This is all about CAMAROS and technical help, etc. and again, street racing is part of the whole Muscle Car Era, etc. Just wanted to state my opinion. Now that I know that this website has this sort of "authority figures" who allow females in states of undress, but won't allow racing videos, I will no longer visit this site. There are plenty of other sites that are more "liberal" than this one.

Talking Re: Why NO Street Racing Videos

I would be more than willing to lay it all out on the line for this human that lives on earth, but since she (?) will no longer visit this site I'll save my rather strong right wing opinion for those who would have the intestinal fortitude to stick around.

Gee, I hope that is not too offensive.

Street racing is against the Law.
Looking at women in certain phases of undress is not.

Post some pictures of you and your car and this will probably let us know why you love street racing so much. You have to look past the girls in the pictures and see the cars, me being a very happily married man never sees the girls in the pictures.

Re: Why NO Street Racing Videos

Hi '69er Girl - say hi to Russ for us...

Let me try to explain, the site has a no street racing policy, it covers kill stories, street racing and dangerous exibition on public streets where it's obvious the public could be in danger. We let an occasional burnout go if it doesn't look like the public is in any way in harms way. This decision didn't come lightly but as the story goes, a long time ago there was a street racing post where a new young member posted how he saw the posts and just had to go street racing because he thought what he read was cool... Well the administration reading this kids post decided then and there the idea of the site was not to encourage anyone to street race. The policy was put in place and it will stand, we don't support illegal activity here and that's the owner of the sites right much like if I posted something you object to in your blog or web sites guest book you have the right to remove it.

Let's move on to the thread with the scantly clad gals. You or Russ had to sign up for a screen name and then had to register that screen name and subscribe to see the post you are offended by. The Off Topic forum was established for the site users that wanted to be able to talk politic's, religion and other topic's that tend to get out of control. I for the life of me really don't know why folks feel the need to preach their beliefs on politic's on a car site but they do and in order to keep the peace in the other forums we have given the good folks here a room in the back they can beat each other up in if they wish. The girlie posts are not illegal and those finding them offensive (just like any other topic back there) don't have to subscribe and will not see the forum or it's content. Kinda like knowing your brother has a Penthouse under his mattress, you think it's tacky but don't have to even go in his room. Ya still love the guy and life goes on... Since I mentioned that give the back room pigs some credit, they are keeping the mystery in it by not posting any actual nude pic's... Are you interested in knowing how many times Russ has viewed the girlie pic thread? I won't tell Russ!

To try and cover the bases, I guess the next question would be why not allow the street racing in the Off Topic forum and those opposed can just not suscribe. It's simple, the girlie pictures, political and other rants are not illegal and are not going to cause anyone to hurt someone else with a car... At worst the frequent visits to the girlie picture posts may cause a few hairy palms and giving ones political opinions may impact the tech help you get in the forums if you insult someone. Nobody, especially a young impressionable kid with a set of car keys is going to kill him/her-self or another because they read about it here...

I hope that explains things in a way you find acceptable and that you will continue to visit and be a part of Team Camaro.

my response to this issue..

Since you love street racing, take look at this link. I'm sure you'll love the part where the guy loses control and hits a bystander...oh and then there's the part in the news report where a guy is shot and killed at the same illegal street race over a bet on the outcome of the race!! Sounds like fun to me...... NOT!!!

And for somebody that will no longer take part in this site....... you have been on for 2 hours since the post. I also posted a video that has street racing in it. It was deleted. Who cares. I get VALUABLE answers to my tech questions and have made some VALUABLE friends on this site. If I wanted to see street racing, then I would go to youtube and watch countless amount of hours of that.

very nicely done djd. burnouts are for the track. not on the road ways.i live on a heavy traffic corner a mustang did a burnout on corner and lost it. car went in my lawn and hit a 40 foot evergreen tree. killed tree but saved car from going into my house.also if he kept going 67 may have been lost also.

The way I look at it, there's a right place and a wrong place to talk about some things. At Church, you don't talk about hooking up at bars. At the airport security line, you don't talk about explosives. At Team Camaro, you don't talk about street racing.

Re: Why NO Street Racing Videos

Welcome to TC. Just a question, but why should street racing vids be allowed here? To compare that to the "rear end" thread isnt the same. If any nude pics were posted, they would be deleted asap. Anything there isn't any different than what you would see in magazines or on TV. Nothing illegal or age-consentive.

This site is much more mature, well-behaved, and strict than many other car-related boards. Note that there are no avatars or sig banners. No "fluff". Tons of info here, and many members here know each other without needing pictures to identify themselves.

The mods/admins do well at keeping things in check, as well as many of the members here do a good job at self-policing the board. If you want street-racing vids/stories, thats fine, but not gonna find them here. Plenty other places for that.

Differing opinions are certainly welcome, but bad attitudes will have a tougher road.

Driving a #s-matching Z in the rain..... and lovin' it....

Re: Why NO Street Racing Videos

Apologies.
I'm the one in authority who removed the post from the non-public area, and that's a rarity for the off topic forum as many do not even know it exists. My username is clearly attached to the post that you refer to, which you are not even signed up to view, nor have ever viewed that forum, so uncertain how you managed to know about it?

It's one of the few things listed on the (post a new topic) page that is not acceptable on this site for the reasons Dennis mentioned.
"Street Racing and "kill stories" are removed." This came from solid reasons and is not a reflection of your posting a link as being anything personal. I watched the video that you posted and a couple of those cars really "sang" when doing a burnout, but it's something that we really do not want to promote... blocking freeways, avoiding police and one car that almost lost it and hit the bystanders just doesn't need to be here.

a bit stuffy? Well, not really. If someone takes it to the track to brag about on here we are behind them 100%. If they street race to tell a kill story, we hope it's just a story and not a sad fact. Yes, I'm guilty as charged (once upon a time) but the only people I could impress were a couple of buddies, not thousands online.

hope this covers it... and apologies about the scantily clad gals that have been posted in a forum that you have no access to view. '69er girl has been pretty busy here for only one post and summed it up fairly well, almost like someone who has been here for a couple of years.
I guess you might have already left so perhaps this response will not be seen but we wanted to be open about why topics like this are removed. It's not a malicious attempt to be a power mad admin, just common sense and a clear love of the hobby and an attempt to keep it that way.

Al -- well said --- at the risk of sounding a little idealistic, the format and rules of this site are the things that make it a great resource and a place for relevant Camaro and non-Camaro topics, and the reason I support the site --- I appreciate the work that the moderators and administrators do to keep the site running

Re: Why NO Street Racing Videos

Looks like "69er Girl" came here with and signed up with some intent to say something about herself. The Nick that she uses says more than any picture that could be posted in the girls on cars post that we have in "off topic", that has to be signed up for to see. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
With the complaint filed, heard and sympathy given I guess you got what you wanted and did what you intened to do but your nick is not fooling anyone. You just should have signed up as Porn Star 69er Girl and then posted. And before the comment comes back "I own a 69 Camaro" or even a Fiat for that matter we all know from the tone of the complaint that you knew better with your nick.
