New from NM, 86' Camaro

Hello and salutations, my name is Ryan LeCocq and I am from Albuquerque, NM.

My Camaro is the often villified 1986 with the hated external high mount brake. I chose this because my goals for this car were: Loud, obnoxious, ugly. So the high mount was a plus rather than a minus.

What makes this Camaro unique is that it was assembled from 4 seperate cars: An 85 Z28, 87 IROC, 84 Berlinetta and the original base coupe it was built on. So it features all of the options the original owner found desirable. Also the car was converted from a T-Top to a quick release Targa similar to some Corvettes. It has 50,000 original, verified miles. No leaks or squeeks and the smog pump and A/C worked until I removed them.

Today I am removing the old z28 exhaust to replace it with the ever popular Borla system. Ciao.

Yes, most of the third-gens are generally pretty ugly

Welcome to the site anyway - I think you'll find some good info for shining up that turd

I thought the saying went 'you can't polish a turd'...

Thanks for the welcome. Third gens have their pros, even though body paneling is not one of them. Mainly they still feel like Camaros, unlike 4ths which feel like a Hyundai made Corvette.

Hey now, I have both a 3rd gen (89 RS - my 200k+ miles DD) and a 4th gen (2002 Z28 - bookend to the 67 and the last of the "real" F-body Camaro's) as well as a 1st (see sig).

I look at it this way: You can't have too much of a good thing.....

BTW, welcome to the site.

67 Camaro: 454/TH400/4.10 12 bolt. Lots of options: PS/PDB/PW, tilt, tach, gauges and more. K-K + 797-Z...

I never gave the 3rd gens a second glance until my son wanted one. Now I'm restoring his 86Z and have a new appreciation of them. It's nice to work on a car where original parts are cheap and plentiful.

With the right buffer and polish I'd think you get a shine on most anything

J/K about the 3rd "Try" years - some of them look pretty good
