Hello from Midwest

Just want to say Hello. I've been fixing cars a long time and I mostly favor
the older chevys. I'm just finishing up a custom 68 Camaro. It's in for interior now. I'll share some pics. later if you want to see.
Later J.J.

Re: Hello from Midwest

Welcome to both of you. Share some picture and any history on the cars. Most of us here would like to see them.

Re: Hello from Midwest

This 68 Camaro is designed and custom built by Jim Johnson of Jimís Body & Paint in Geneva ,Iowa.
It belongs to Donny Warneke. Donny got the car in 1985 and drove it throughout High School.
He and my boy ran together. Travis had a 71 Chevelle at the time. They were two of the local gearheads, who, together built, raced, swapped, and grenaded more than a few engines, and scattered many other parts across the countryside. I helped put the Camaro back together after a couple of outta control ditch rides. Along the way the 68 got pushed, motorless, in the barn for a long rest. In 2003 it got drug into my shop again, this time for a nice restoration. This thing was beat to death and needed it all. Why restore at this stage? Letís build. The outdoor pictures are from Dec. 06 ,Then it was put in the trailer to go for interior. It went Dec. 27, 07 to Recovery Room Hot Rod Interiors for a one off Custom treatment by Tracy Weaver and Crew. I will update soon.
Engine:
440 GM Big Block- Built by Donny and Travis , Back in The Day
Heads are 1967 GM Alum. Sm. Chmbr. Rect.Prt. 2.19 int. 1.88 exh. With 10.5 comp.
Solid Roller Cam .620 lift
Single plane intake & 830 cfm. Carb.
Ceramic short style Headers for ground clearance
Custom Stainless with Torquetube exhaust
March Long Pump serpentine belt and pully system
Large crossflow Alum. Radiator &Dual Fans
Drivetrain:
6 Spd. Trans. Hyd. Clutch 12 Blt. Rear/4.10 Posi
4Whl. Disc. Brakes GM Standard ,all Stainless lines
Quick ratio GM Pwr/Steering 2 in. drop spindles ,Coilovers,Tubular A arms, 1in. swaybar
Relocated and Dropped rear Leaf, Heavy shocks and ZíD shackles
Billet Specialties Whls. 18X8 frt 18x10 Rr. With GoodYears
Mods. To underside include- Tubs by Jimmy ,Weld in frame connecters, relocate shocks & shackles, raise tunnel, extend rockers, Shave frame rails&brace, Shave frt. X/Mmber, Steering linkage, Oil Pan, Etc.
All Body Mods are By Jimmy:
You can see by the pics., This Camaro is Bone Stock , from the Roof-Up.
My plan for this car was to keep as many GM and Camaro parts in the build as possible. The frt. Bmpr. And driving lite pockets are 69. Frt. Air dam and fndr. flare is patterned after 78 Z28 and modern Nascar Splitter. Steel cowl ind. Scoop was welded in from bottom side and smoothed both sides. Rckrs. and lower fndrs. Were extended for a slight channeled look. Firewall and all panels smoothed. Plumbing and wiring hidden. Door hndls. And locks 2002 GM molded in. Orig. rear spoiler laid dwn. And molded to decklid and qrtrs. 69 taillites installed and reversed . 69 rear bmpr. . Custom bike popup gas cap.

Paint is GM Super Red and custom mix silver pearl stripes, Grills are hand fab. All stainless trim has brushed look.

This car does not fit into the Pro-Touring crowd. Itís too much custom and not enough Track looking. No rollcage, no narrowed rear, no big brakes, and no deep and big rear wheel/tire combo. But with 650hp. Under the hood it will be a handful. Anyone have any ideas what to call this?? Give me some ideas. Modified Muscle, Modern Muscle, . What Class would it show in? Thanks Jim Johnson

It ain't no sleeper! Restified Muscle(?) - Muscle cars were full-size. Pony cars were the Camaro's, Mustang's & AMX's. So Restified Pony doesn't even roll off the tongue soundly. Street car?

One thing you can call it - YOURS!
