Welcome, I spent a few years down there myself, part of 81 and most of 82 thru 84, they had a nice drag strip on the south west edge of the county, was Onslow county dragstrip, is it still there?

Re: new from camp lejuene nc

Oh I forgot to mention my ideas for your help, I did something like this in an 84 IROC back in 90, bought one that just a roller, I put a mild 400 in there, ran a carb. One thing you have to do is drop the tank and take out the electric fuel pump if you are going to run a mechanical pump, which I did on mine. Everything else was fairly easy, I ran an HEI, put a hot wire to it, did away with all the fuel injection stuff and wires, I cut them off, taped them up and left it at that.

Re: new from camp lejuene nc

Are you trying to get the TBI set-up to run first before switching to a carb?
Or have you already changed to a carb and trying to get it to run?

If TBI, the ign module sends its signal to the ECM and the ECm splits the signal. One for the injectors, the other to the dist for ignition. Dist is ECM controlled, you cannot run a ECm controlled dist for a carb set-up. The easiest route is to get a HEI dist and drop it in.

If carb'ed, same thing use a HEI dist and run a separate 12 AWG power supply wire, ign source.
