Hi, my name is Bob. I'm new to this site, but have been around a few boards over the last couple years. Not real tech savvy. (the one place I've learned to post pictures is the virtual garage on the link in my signature)
I've joined the site for an exchange of 1st Gen technical information.
I started looking for a 67 or 68 Camaro or 400 firebird convertible
in the late 70's. I found my 68 Camaro in August of 1980. It was sitting in a field up on blocks with the top down. I paid $250 and traded a stereo from a Datsun 240Z. It's a 295hp 350 SS, auto, ac convertible. It had rs trim (gauges, lower valence painted black, chrome molding,) except for the hideaways when I got it. I was 17 and scrounged up enough money to have it painted from Butternut yellow to Matador red. It was my only car, except also having a vette for a short period, until 2001.
I did a $22k restoration in 1990. In 2001 I was hit by an 80 year old guy who ran a red light. It took me 2 1/2 years before I could go into my garage without my blood pressure boiling. It's been 9 years since I drove it and it is currently going through a major- think body rebuild- restoration. I'm pushing it as fast as my wallet will allow. I'm restoring it stock except for changing the auto to a 4 speed.
My current daily driver is a rebuilt 1992 Z28- painted 69 Hugger orange with a fastburn 385 350 (385hp/385ftq)
I've always been an F-body fan since before they were called F-bodies and my taste has alternated with generation. I like the 1st, late second, and 4th gen Firebirds and Trans Ams as well as 1st, early early 2nd and 3rd gen Camaros. I'm also partial to the 30th and 35th anniversary cars.
I also collect Lionel trains. I'm a Merchant Marine- Ship Captain. My last assignment was the Maersk Alabama.
