New guy with a 69 basket case

I recently bought a 69 basket case, literaly. I've been trying to decide how I want to build it as there was no engine or transmission. So I have picked up a 69 4 speed as well as a 400 to power it. I just got my new trunk pan and frame rails this week and just finished the body cart today, so finally I get to start working on it. Here are a couple of pictures of the shell.

Re: New guy with a 69 basket case

Hey Andy, welcome to team Camaro Porn. Remember we like to watch, so post lots of pictures.

Your car does not look that bad to me. I have had and started with much worse.

As a fellow countryman, canuck and all around crazy guy, I suggest that you strip the paint to know exactly what you have, and make a plan of attack and get busy. I am now on my 3rd project and I have learned so much from this site. I just started another build thread this week if you want to check it out.

I am looking forward to following your progress. Feel free to ask questions here and you will get the best advice available when it comes to building your car.

It's aways best if you can get a clear picture of what you want to build, make a parts list and a price list as well. I am finding that by doing that this time around as well as putting a timeline together, that I might actually finish it. I also found it helpfull to find a photo of a car that already looks exactly how I want my to look. It keeps me from drifting off base, which is way to easy for me to do...

Good luck, and may the Camaro Force be with you!

Re: New guy with a 69 basket case

Well I already have the picture hanging in the shop of what it is supposed to look like. I'm going to try to stay on top of the pictures at the risk of my wife cursing the greasy prints on the camera. I did start a thread in the body section but I can't figure out the picture thing as it limits me to 130kb. Not many people that I know get too excided about my project but thankfully my wife takes an interest, in driving it not working on it. When given the choice of the smaller engine with an automatic verses the bigger one with a 4 speed she didn't skip a beat in telling me to put a down payment on the big engine/4 speed combo so that it would be held for me. Thanks for the interest. Car nuts are awesome.

What part of Ontario are you in, eh? Did the car come Hugger Orange? What color are you painting it and what is your project going to be? I use photobucket for posting pictures. All my pics are 2 meg when I downdload them. Photobucket converts them. Really simple.

Re: New guy with a 69 basket case

I am in Southwestern Ontario, on Lake erie (Port Dover). Yes the car was a Hugger Orange. I would paint it the same in a second but the other half wants a darker blue, which looks very nice as well. Time will tell.
As to the project, I want to do as much as possible myself on this car. I picked up a 4 speed out of a 69 that came with a Flywheel /Centerforce clutch /bellhousing /linkages /pedals and console which came off of a stroker so I decided to hook it onto a 400 that will be a mild build. That way it still drives nice, stays reliable and hopefully keeps me out of trouble with the radar guys
As to the pictures, do they have to be uploaded to a site like photo bucket first?
