Got my 67

Hey guys, been so active in the whats-it-worth section since joining, I almost think I should post this there, and extend a sincere thanks for all the help in finding my car, but I'll be good and do the right thing

After EIGHT weeks of negotiations I finally decided on this solid 1967 non-everything, though it did come with a 327 and A/C, that has never been on the road in New England, except the last couple months. The car lived in CA and then AZ, same owner for last 17 years, brought it with him to NH and stored since, and aside from a water leak causing the trunk pan to rust, and be replaced, it's extremely solid underneath and the usual spots that get the dreaded rot. Paint is decent for 12 years old and nothing coming through is nice to see. Engine is built to run, older rebuild, but runs great (aside from a disturbing vibration he, and now I, have tried to track down... pia!)

Plans include power disc, air dam, and rally wheels, RS lights perhaps...

Re: Got my 67

Congrats on finally getting the car! How's she running? Are you going with 15" rally wheels or something bigger?

I still have about a week and a half before mine gets delivered.

Absolutely.
I'm glad the seller did that part before selling it to me, and you should have seen the old cam- one exhaust and one intake worn down to a nub. Plus he went with a more streetable cam and ditched the Rhodes lifters, which SHOULD have straightened out that odd vibration.... which it didn't, but it does run better and pulls great, brakes are up next!

Re: Got my 67

Wow, glad to hear you got to the bottom of that issue. Now make sure you are running some additive in it such as cam-shield so the new one will live a happy life.

I have a brake kit ready to go. That'll probably be my next project after i finish this cam. I should be in the garage right now but I'm beat. Tomorrow for sure.

Welcome and conrats. I love a 67. Non-everything is what I have also, not too bad of thing either in my opinion. That way you can change things around like you want and not feel guilty about it!
Enjoy your new ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't say I got to the bottom of the motor issue, closer to the middle, lol, but if I get a year out of it without failure I'm content, if I resolve it I'm psyched.

The seller found the flat lobes when he tried adjusting the lash and saw two were just sitting there, and coincidentally I had just read an article in PM on ZDDP variations in oil over the years and flat cams becoming more common, (which I forwarded to him before he replaced it). He had actually been advised by the retailer he used this time to get some additives, which he used this time, and then just before I picked the car up he went ahead and did the first oil change after ~200 miles and added more to the new oil, which was pretty cool and unexpected.

Love to see some pics and get your impressions on the brake conversion kit, haven't started shopping yet as the manual drum brakes work well enough for the limited amount of driving I plan before the four letter word starts flying and hibernation is in effect. Guess the brake kit might be something to decide on before buying rally wheels, in case the new rotors have clearance issues and require special consideration?
In the mean time the ceramic clutch and heavy duty springs are working the left leg, the manual drums working the right, I can skip leg day!
