A lot of nice posts on this site! I've got a 68 Camaro RS/SS that I've been slowly restoring/upgrading over the past 13 years. Currently installing a new distibutor that is fighting me every step of the way. I think the oil pump drive shaft came out partially when I pulled the old one out. No matter what I try it won't go in. I lack about 2 1/2" before it will seat. Any ideas?

Re: Just joined

Welcome, Daniel. Correct year and she seems to be her ole self.

You might look down the hole to make sure the pump rod is centered in the hole.
Also, you can install a priming tool to see if the rod is seated, or not, in the pump.

My thoughts are if it lacks 2.5 inches, the barrel of the body may be a schoosh too big to fit into the bore of the block next to the camshaft. Usually, the last 1/4 inch of travel is fitting the end of the dist shaft into the pump rod.
Pictures? We like pictures.

Yes... We love pics. Had the same problem with my dist. Is it a billet design... It has be aligned perfectly to fit on the oil pump shaft. It is the way it is machined. Welcome, by the way...

Re: Just joined

Distibutor is a MSD Streetfire HEI. Not Billet. Shaft looks just like the one I pulled out. I used a priming tool with a drill and oil pump pumped oil fine. Drive shaft does have some play but how much is too much? This thing is really pissing me off! Was suppose to be a quick job...new distibutor, wires, plugs. Also I posted a few pics of my pride and joy!
