Question New to Camaros

Hello to all,

I've just joined the camaro family. Im still young so i didnt have much money to work with, but the insurance was better than other cars (beileve it or not) i was looking at when i was looking for a new car.

So I bought a 2000 camaro. 5- speed, red with black stripes. used, and needs work. I cant complain for what i paid for it though. Some of the work is just time consuming. like buttoning up the inside panels that the previous owner took apart to remove her subwoofers. But the main problem I'm having right now is that my 2nd gear is constantly giving me trouble. I dont hot rod on the thing, but no matter what i do its hard to shift into. when i go to shift into 2nd it doesnt stay in gear, and it will some times pop out of 2nd on steep inclines. The rest of the time its fine.

I have a friend that works and restores mopars, and he says that i might need new shift forks. Any else that could be wrong?

Any help is appreciated.

Re: New to Camaros

Welcome to the Club. Congrats on the new buy.
I suggest you buy a Haynes manual for the model and read it as it tells you how the car works. Plus has good info for the rest of the car.
It reads like you need new synchro assembly(ies) along with shift forks or maybe be cheaper to get a used trans to replace, but then you risk buying another's problems. Tough call. You won't know what you need until you get inside. Labor intense and costly. Weigh both sides.

Maybe others here will expunge their thoughts.
