Re: Hi from Tasmania

Welcome to TC! I visited your lovely island a few years back and would like to return some day. Its a good time to be looking for a car. Try to find one that hasn't been molested. Good luck!

Well isnt more while the other dollar is so far down...
From my memory the Aussie $ had only been almost $ per $ with the US 40 odd yrs ago.
The way the fed is printing money and the new mines opening in SA take your time and get something good.

Re: Hi from Tasmania

Welcome Ben,
I'm also a fairly recent addition to this site, am in NSW so nice to see so many Camaro owners/fans from outside North America!
Good luck with finding a car, as Steps said take your time and make sure you get the best one you can afford - and get it fully checked over by someone who knows 1st Gens inside out before parting with your $$.
If you're looking to import from the US, make sure you get firm quotes from at least 3 or 4 shipping companies, and check every word to make sure everything you will eventually have to pay has been covered. Before I found my car, I got several quotes - they ranged from $2500/$3000 AUD to around $4500/$5000 AUD. Somewhere in between the "top shelf" and "bargain basement" service should be around $3500, but look out for hidden fees - fuel duty, wharf fees, truck cleaning fees, AQIS inspections, steam cleaning, levy charges for days ending in a 'y', etc etc. Not trying to put you off, the $ is too good to pass up, but some shippers will quote low to get your car on the water - then when it lands on the dock they hit you up with all the extras that you MUST pay to pick up your car (or else wharf storage fees can be applied after 3 days or so off the ship).
Anyway, once you get the car nothing will get the smile off your face, so keep us posted when you get one!!
Cheers, Tim

Welcome to T.C
Quite a few Aussies joining us lately. As Steptoe said make sure of what your buying. Better still if you can, go for a trip and check the car out your self. At the end of the day for what it costs it would be well worth your while. Plus it's a great place to visit. Going over my self this year.
Cheers.

Re: Hi from Tasmania

G`day Ben, good to see more Aussies on here, as some of the good advice already given says take your time, some financial folks are predicting the dollar to climb through $1.30 over the next couple years, also either go check out anything in person or employ a professional to provide you with a detailed report on the car before you pay anything, dont be sucked into auctions with time limits, any genuine sellers will allow a genuine buyer the nesessary time to do your due dilligence, and be very careful of something that is reported to be #`s matching, i bought an SS clone in great condition and just love it, also dont have experts telling me what is not original about it, good luck mate
