Hello everyone, this is Mario C. and I have a 68 ragtop. I'm almost done but needed help with the top frame installation. I have purchased books (Body by Fisher, Convertible top guide II, factory assembly manual) and none of them show clear pictures of the power top frame installation. I have seen some pics on the tech forum that may help. Any additional pictures you have would be appreciated.

Welcome aboard the SS TC, Mario.

You don't get that much detail in the body manual. I did a lot of trial and error to put mine together. Just be careful to use the shims, tighten loosely and lube before trying it for the first time.

I punched in "convertible frame assembly" in the search area, and got two pages of info outta the archives... there's prob even more in there if you look.

Did you go to the Good Guys? I cruised the hotels on the north side. Wow! some big bucks in those lots. Are you a member of the local camaro club? I am thinking about joining when I get my car done. Mario

Hey Mario, I work on the same road the Good Guys show was held so I stopped by over lunch. Lots of nicely done cars!

Re: New member

Welcome, Mario. Correct year as stated by others. I endorse it as well.

I had exchanged a top and frame on another brand of car and I bolted the new one loosely, rolled up the windows to adjust the top to meet the weatherstripping, tightened the bolts. Then I placed a 2X4 flat on the header, 4 inch side flat, laid the top onto the 2X4, then stapled the window with stainless staples by starting in the middle and pull tight with my fingers and worked to the side windows. Once done, latched the front and had a tight top, bounce a quarter on it, just like an Army/Navy boot camp cot.

My last two suggestions is to leave the top laid up in the sun before stapling. The other is at winter time, disconnect the cylinders from the top frame and retract the rods into the cylinders for rust free safekeeping. You don't need to have a rusty rod damage a seal.

Give a man a rescued dog for the health of both their souls. May 2017 ROTM Winner - Thank you!

Re: New member

Mario,

Correct year and body style!
Color of car, interior info, all the details!

Though my top is loose at the body for metal repair and paint, it is still is attached to the top frame, frame in car. Direct me to what you need pics of.
