Government Tax on classic cars

Hello,

I am new to the forum and own a 1969 Camaro SS.

I was wondering if anyone here heard about the state of Connecticut trying to impose a $2500 Tax/Registration fee for each classic car you own per year?

Apparently it was in this months Hemmings.

If this happens, I hope it does not open the door for all other states to follow!!!

Welcome to TC... I think what you are refering to is an old prank that was played on the automotive world a while back.

I hope that is the case.

If there is any truth to this, it would be a disaster for the hobby!!!

The NY Times was an April Fools joke, Conn is dead serious...not sure if this died in session or is still moving ahead

Re: Government Tax on classic cars

Also look at http://classiccars.about.com/b/2011/...fools-hoax.htm

Under the search box type in "April 13, 2011" and the story to read would be the first one on Car Legislation by Tony and Michele Hammer

This could be terrible....

Re: Government Tax on classic cars

I guess it was not a joke after all.

Thank goodness the bill was defeated, hopefully some tax happy politician does not look to pursue it in the future.

I bought my Camaro in 1986, as my first car and did the usual stuff just to keep it on the road.

Original SS 350 car with custom deluxe interior.

Met the wife , had kids, project was on hold until 2001 and started a frame off resto.

Re: Government Tax on classic cars

Thanks,

Unforyunately a lot of my buddies either wrecked or sold off their hotrods in the eighties and early ninties, but I was fortunate enough to hold onto mine.

I now am enjoying my car again especially since my 14 year old son really enjoys the car/hobby as well.

We just went to Carlisle and had a blast......
