Hello everyone. 2 months ago I realized a long time dream to own a 1st gen Camaro when I bought a 1967. It was kind of an "impulse buy" as I wasn't really serious about buying one (didn't think I could afford it) and was just looking at Craigs list ads because I was bored. Saw the ad, looked at the car the next day and bought it on the spot. This is the 2nd Camaro I've owned. My first was a 1970 I had about 20 years ago and sold. I had/have a lot of questions, such as cowl tag decoding, tire and wheel fitment, etc... and found this forum while researching. It's such a wealth of information I'm grateful it's here! I look forward to mining more information and asking many questions. Thanks!

Re: New Member

Welcome. Sounds like we both made impulse buys around the same time- I picked up the '69 that I'm building for my daughter back in March.

What kind of shape is yours in? Is it a driver, or does it need a full resto like the mess I bought?

Re: New Member

It's in remarkably good shape, especially what I paid for it. The guy was advertising it as an SS car but it isn't. I was able to look at the cowl tag and show him (using documents I brought with me). It may be an RS car as it has hide away headlights and other RS trim but I suspect those were added to a standard car. The trim tag is worn and painted... Where it would have an RS code it's tough to see what the numbers/letters are. The shop I had inspect the car (Gearhead garage - they were on Car Warriors and won!) here in Sac said it was an RS. Since I can't visually verify it myself I say it was born standard. Anyway, a few rust issues (in the rain channels and below the rear window - leaks into the trunk) but othewise in great shape. Floor and trunk pan solid, engine and trans good. Looking to replace the old headers and am looking through past posts for information.

Congrats on your purchase! Hope you enjoy driving it as much as I do mine.
