New from CT

Hey folks.
Been on Team Chevelle for a few years and been popping in and out of here for a while.
I know a guy that has a 69 Camaro Z28 for sale he inherited from his dad.
The story goes that his dad bought it from the original owner with a 427 installed but he had the original DZ 302 engine if he wanted it for extra $$.He said NO on the DZ motor?
Well,I got to thinking about it and asked him for the VIN and it seems that it is`nt a DZ302 Z28 by the VIN 123379N5XXXX.By that # it would be a 6 cylinder and not even a Z28,Correct?

Re: New from CT

Tim,
From what I can tell by the VIN# that car was born with a 6 cylinder...

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Example: 124377N100001
Third Digit Engine: 3 for 6 cylinder, 4 for V8
Fourth Digit Body Style: 3 for coupe, 6 for convertible
Sixth Digit Year: 7=1967, 8=1968, 9=1969
Seventh Digit Production Plant: N=Norwood,Ohio, L=Van Nuys
Last Six Digits increase by one with each Camaro built at each plant
NOTE: 1967 Chevy Camaros started with (100001)
NOTE: 1968 Chevy Camaros started with (300001)
NOTE: 1969 Chevy Camaros started with (500001)

* * Engine Body Style * Year Plant ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
1 2 4 3 7 7 N 1 0 0 0 0 1

3 - 6 Cyl.
4 - V8 3 - Coupe
6 - Convertible Last
Digit N - Norwood
L - Van Nuys Increases by one for each
Camaro built at each plant
* means same on all 67-69 Camaros if not then it is not a US registered Camaro VIN

Hey Tim - Is the car Blue with White stripes from Wallingford on 68? If so its a clone all the way through. Watched it transform on my way to Guilford each day in the early 90's.
