Hi, im a newb!

i joined the forum a week or so ago searching for an answer to a problem by accident....but this is home now.

bought a Maroon 1984 Camaro "series 3" i believe u call it for 800$.
has a 350 v8, american racing rims, daytona firehawks, and the power steering
pressure hose was leaking like a sieve.
replaced it but the power steering isnt working right. perhaps its eaten the
whole bottle of fluid and wants more, buts its not leaking anymore.
she still is hard to turn unless im actually gassing it. seems to be getting better.
but it still squawks.

everything is mostly stock except the tranny which the original owner threw
a shift kit in and a new edelbrock 4 barrel on (lucky he didnt realize it after i
paid him and he signed the title. his son threw it on without him know it.)

speedo cable must be broke because i have to guess how fast im going.....
and boy this car can go.

Re: Hi, im a newb!

Welcome to TC

IF it's still making noise, it could still be air in the line.
Whenever changing pumps or lines you need to purge the air.
Jack the front of the car up enough that the tires are off the ground, check the fluid level in the PS reservoir(full mark?) start car and cut wheels all the way lock to lock a few times, check fluid level and add as needed. Repeat turning wheels lock to lock and checking fluid level until sound and air is gone.
IF the fluid gets or stays "foamy looking" and doesn't go away, the pump could be sucking air.

PLEASE DO NOT use that power steering leak stopper....it makes the seals swell and is only a temporary fix

Re: Hi, im a newb!

i only had a pint to throw in to begin with and some leftover.
but i bought a quart today and it ate almost the entire bottle.
doesnt squawk anymore unless i have the wheels turned FULLY.
but ive heard that noise on ALL older vehicles when you do that.

the sad thing is....its easier to cruise WITHOUT power steering...
but since i live in a city i have to make tight turns so i have to have it.
my steering is VERY loose and ive been pulled over because of it.
need to check my tire pressure etc since she pulls to the right.

Re: Hi, im a newb!

thnx^^

next mission.....get the speedo working.
next.....figure out how i use so much gas other than the obvious.
i think shes not getting the mileage she should be. an 8-10mi trip can use
up to a gallon (depending how accurate my gauge is).

as far as the PS goes...ill work with what u say to do.
i have a GENERAL Haynes manual for years 82-92....but it only covers so much.
what happened to the 2000 page books we had in auto shop class back in the day? haha
