first Camaro

Picked up my first Camaro this week--a 1969 SS350 Convertible 4 speed. After decoding the VIN and tag, it was originally a V8 car, but from what I understand, it's difficult to determine if it was truly an SS.

It needs some sorting out, but we're well on the way to making it a very nice and fun car.

Attached are a few photos.

Welcopme, Paul.
You might visit www.camaros.org for trim tag decode and other SS identifying features.

Re: first Camaro

The website is telling me I exceeded my quota so I can't upload interior photos. I did the decoder thing and here's what I found:

1 = Chevrolet
2 = Camaro
4 = 8-cylinder engine
67 = convertible body
9 = 1969 model year
N = Norwood, OH assembly plant
588885 = vehicle serial number sequence

Decode for body number: 245211

10A = Built the First week of October.
69-12467 = Convertible.
NOR = Built in Norwood Ohio.
711 = Standard Black Bucket Seats.
71-B = Lower Color is LeMans Blue and the Convertible Top Color is Black.
X11 = non-SS396, non-Z28, with style trim

Re: first Camaro

Welcome to TC Paul! Host you photos someplace for free, like Photobucket, and then just copy the IMG coding into your posts and the pics will show up here.

Your car is too early to have the cowl hood (RPO ZL2) as OE, so if it was an original SS, it had the domed SS hood with fake louvers, and the hood springs should have 28 coils vs 26 for flat and cowl hoods People often forget to change the hood springs when making a "tribute" car

There are plenty of other clues, but it is late and I will pick it back up tomorrow.

Nice project. Keep safe up there with those hellish fires.

Re: first Camaro

Hi Eric and 69 Pace,

Thanks for the info. There's a lot of non-original stuff on the car that I know of, so the hood doesn't surprise me. As for the fires, everything's pretty much under control. The closest the fire got to our house was a little less than 5 miles.

Thanks,

Paul Moore

Re: first Camaro

Looks like a nice car, Paul, but one thing I noticed is the cowl tag numbers you posted. Check the build date again. 10A doesn't line up with your VIN, and it wouldn't have had any X codes on it. I suspect a typo and it is really 01A.

Experience...... It's what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

Re: first Camaro

Are you trying to sell your car already? I just saw an ad on craigslist for your car?
