New owner of 68 Camaro

I have wanted a muscle car for years, but the time has never been right, for one reason or another. I went and watched a buddy racing some et bracket drags and I was hooked. I wanted a 68 because its the same model year as I am. I got excited and bought the first one I looked at. Well it has a few issues, but I am working through them. Got a couple good shops lined up to help when needed. I am planning a long term pro tourer build with some sportsman drags thrown in for fun.

Mainly just wanted to thank everyone on Camaros.net for all the information, I look forward to talking with many of you once I learn enough to ask reasonably intelligent questions

Car is a 68 coupe with a 350 and turbo 400 trans

Re: New owner of 68 Camaro

Thanks all, here are a couple pictures that I have. I will get some more as soon as I can get it outside.

There were issues with the brakes so I am working on that now. I'm installing front disc brakes as well as a new master cylinder and power assist assembly. I was able to drive it home when I bought it, but it probably wasn't a good idea, brakes were pretty bad. In the meantime I am finding a bunch of small stuff to work on. I have replaced some switches and cleaned up some wiring, drilling out broken off seat bolts, installing new carpet kit. Next step will be to get it into the shop and get the carbuerator sorted out. I want to get the Z28 badges off and replace the missing Camaro script soon. I just want to get it on the road safely then do projects as time and money permit.

Re: New owner of 68 Camaro

Chuck, good looking starting point

One thing I see is that front needs to drop a touch....A "free mod" is to pull the springs and using a cut-off wheel, remove 1/2 a coil for 1" drop or a full coil for a 2" drop. Measurments are approximate

Re: New owner of 68 Camaro

Nice car there are you sure its a turbo 400 tranny? If so, it was changed out from the TH350 3 speed tranny, since the 400 only went into cars with the 396 engine.

Re: New owner of 68 Camaro

I sure like the lines of the 68 with that hood and spoiler, but I may be biased.
I am curious, do you have single or multi-leaf rear springs?
