NEW Owner - 1968 RS/SS 396

Got a new owner here! Some of you may already know me from my countless questions on possible camaro puchases

I have wanted a 68 camaro for a long time and am happy to finally have one. My wife and I flew up to Oregon about a couple weeks ago and drove the car all the way back down to San Diego, it was a fun adventure and a good way to get to know the new baby too!

I have a long list of things I'm going to do to it, as you can see there is quite a bit of aftermarket things added. My goal is to slowly bring most back to original. 1st on the list is rally wheels.

RS/SS, built 396/325hp (T0205IVR 6 L Impala block), Muncie (P8T15, VIN must be on top?), 12 bolt (BV0321G2 E), Car Build date (April, 1st week), Deluxe black interior (714), Originally British Green with Black Vinyl Top (Z2) and now black lacquer.

Shoot away with more questions!

Beautiful ride, congratulations! Great paint, love the color! It's great that you got the experience to drive her home with your bride. Must have been an amazing ride!

Re: NEW Owner - 1968 RS/SS 396

Anything built the first week of April is OK in my book.

Seriously, nice car. You did very good on that one, nice taste. I like the stockness of it, no headers, MSD box stuck to the firewall etc.

Congrats on a beautiful 68 Camaro.... Looks like another happy customer from the Chevy Store in Portland. Been going there since the mid 80's

As said, nice Camaro, reads like a good trip from Oregon to SD, CA.
Do you serve Foster-Grant's when others view it?
Correct year also...

Re: NEW Owner - 1968 RS/SS 396

Thank you for all the comments

Eventually I want to find a camaro 396 to start building and sell the Impala engine.

Still trying to figure out if the 12 bolt and trans are original, any thoughts on the dates?

Re: NEW Owner - 1968 RS/SS 396

P8T15 =
P = Muncie
8 = year built, 68
T = month, December
15 = day, 15th.

http://www.5speeds.com/muncie2.htm

VIN is normally stamped on the center plate edge, right below the P code?
Casting number of main case? You can find what it applies to in the link above.

Re: NEW Owner - 1968 RS/SS 396

rear Axle = BV0321G2 E
BV = 4.10
03 = month, March
21 = day of month, 21st
G = Detroit Gear & Axle Plant
2 = Second shift
E = brand, Eaton

Did not find anything on the year, however, I would think the axle is original, being 3/21 build date, and having multi-leaf perches as all '67's had mono-leaf perches, I believe.

Camaros.org has plenty of info.

Re: NEW Owner - 1968 RS/SS 396

Most of the Muncie VIN stamps I have seen are right below the code like you said. I did read somewhere that there are some stamped on the top though, so I'm assuming that's where it is. Here is a pic of the codes and the multi leafs which look original:
