New East TN member - 68 RS 327

I married not too long ago to a woman who came with a nice 68 Camaro RS. She's teaching me to spot them on the road and I'm fixing little things all over her car.

She's had the car since 1980 when her dad gave it to her. He bought it used. She ran it into the ground so he took it back, fixed everything, and gave it to her again. (Kinda thing my dad might have done for me!)

The original 327 still resides but with a slightly better cam and an Edelbrock intake and carb setup. The distributor is some upgrade too. My wife had a boyfriend who swapped out the stock trans for a Muncie M22 (allegedly - I'll do more research on that since I've found a site that explains the differences between various Muncie units and I don't recall hearing hers whine)

Right after I replaced her motor mounts (neither was bolted at the bottom and that seems to have been the problem) the heater core popped. >sigh< waiting on a set of rubber for the heater box right now. Symptoms that caused me to replace the motor mounts was odd. When you started to engage the clutch going up a grade things shifted around to finish engaging it while you held your foot still or even pressed it back down a tad. I pictured the motor rocking and the bellcrank setup screwing up. Seemed better but need more driving time to see.

I've known the left turn signal indicator on the speedo didn't work. While I've got it so empty under the dash (heater box out) I popped the gauge cluster out. Finding oddness there it turns out. Using this forum for some answers.

I hope I'll be able to help someone figure things out and I already know you folks have a good group here.

Oh, and we live near Pigeon Forge where all those fantastic car shows are.

Welcome, Pat.
Corrct year and nice find for Wife 1.0.
Indicator is connected in parallel at the firewall connector.
Turn signals have their own fuse, and pink wire to flasher above gas pedal either hanging by its connector or in a clip.
Must have good bulbs and the same part number for the bulbs to work if using a 512 flasher.
Grounds are your worst enemy. Ensure the cluster is grounded to the dash, right above the high meam indicator, or dash frame for cluster to work.
Use emergency flashers to troubleshoot all corner bulbs. Emer flasher is on the fuse panel.
Get lights to work on emergency function, then only items left are turn signal switch and column wiring.

Give a man a rescued dog for the health of both their souls. May 2017 ROTM Winner - Thank you!

Actually my wife has a fun younger sister who comes with a '68 Firebird convertible with 350 but an automatic. She, however, is married with children and living in Phoenix area.

Re: New East TN member - 68 RS 327

Thanks Everett. Yeah as noted above I had already found the fix-your-dash-lights thread and gone through those steps. Should be good to go but I'm still messing with my heater core and now pulling the whole front clip to work on that and fix up a bunch of little things I keep finding. I'm already getting lots of great advice on here.

I'm thinking that guys that dated my wife and wanted to drive her car earned the privilege by working on it. Some really shouldn't have.

Sorry I am used to having my threads auto subscribed when I post and forgot until a few minutes ago to set that up in this forum. Now I can keep up with y'all! I didn't realize until now that anyone besides the administrator had replied here.

Re: New East TN member - 68 RS 327

Oh just thought I'd mention. I was down in Pigeon Forge yesterday to see the latest Rod Run there. HUGE numbers of first gen Camaros and Firebirds to see. Couldn't find a parking spot for my giant Buick (Roadmaster wagon) so we cruised down the right lane in heavy traffic ogling.

Saw a modern Camaro with a body kit to make it a Firebird on the way there. Looked so good I was questioning whether Pontiac was making Firebirds.

Re: New East TN member - 68 RS 327

It's looking like a good contingent of East TN folks here. Well, TN folks anyway. I guess I'll have to amend my profile and make it more specific. We might have to have a mini gathering. We could pick a day and a restaurant to meet up. (okay, less of the beer when we're in our cars)
