What Do I got here?.....Dcastell Check in

Hello. Not new to forums, will try and search and research before I ask the same questions. Not gonna lie, might ask one every once in a while. I mostly build rock crawlers and this.....is my first muscle car. Always wanted my neighbors sitting the field. I picked this guy up. 1968 camaro:

Pictures first. She is a 20' er. Looks good from a far and needs paint.

Interior

See if my links work on the photo. More to come.

Re: What Do I got here?.....Dcastell Check in

Alright. Pics work. More specs.

It appears the seems were attempted to be sealed at some point with bondo. Not seal seamed very well. I assume this was restored about 10 years ago.

The reflectors were filled in. Good on the outside but questionable on the inside. Looks like pop rivits were used and peice of sheet metal on the inside, spot welded and then bondo'd.

Trunk is solid. Could have been repaired years ago. No carpet in the trunk.

The shifter is wierd. Looks like a mustang shifter. The parking pawl is my first concern.

Not a SS. But front and rear badges are on there.

Has some edelbrock 2 barrel carb. Will need to identify

Has MSD Ignition. Not sure how great it is . Good or is there better. The car runs like a raped ape

Has a 12 bolt rear end with leaf pack. Posi rear. No ebrake. Part of my parking paw that needs to be addressed before it rolls down a parking lot and kills a bus full of nuns.

I assume this is the protect o plate

I will be checking in the vin tag team forum next.

327 3 speed auto. Assume TH350. Disk brakes all around and drop spindles in the front.

This is all that I have learned so far. Plans are to keep from tearing it apart this summer, full rebuild this winter, minor tune up, oil change, parking issues and play all summer.

No side marker lights front and rear. Quarters and fenders replaced? Trim tag does say 68and not a 67 and it doesn't have the door vent windows, so probably a 68. 12 bolt is possibly original, check for date on center section and build code on passenger side tube at the top of the tube, at least you'll know if it came originally. Yeah the shifter does look like its for/from a Mustang. Other than that, depending on what you want to do with it, it has potential. There are quite a few fellas here into the 67-68 bodies that can help more than myself. I'm into 69's, but a 68 parked next to it in my garage wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit.

The side markers were filled. Inside the truck you can see a 3"x4" plate with four rivits in the corner. It looks good from the outside. Smooth, but it appears that they just put a plate behind the panels, tack welded, sanded and then bondo'd. I think they were going for the smooth body line build. All the seams have bondo in them. Trunk, front fenders and more.

Read here towards the bottom concerning that floor shifter...

If you've got what I think you've got then the CRG (Camaro Research group) may want to talk to you.

Also, your car started out as Ash Gold with Gold interior...

Welcome to TC! You have the best year IMO. The picture of the tag posted above is the cowl tag. The protect-o-plate was not attached to the car. Looks like a fun project and that could be an interesting shifter.

So I do have the TH400 under there. I have the alignment and the tires getting rotated in the front today. I asked if they would call me when they got her in the air.

No rust under there. I was really excited to see the 400. The shifter is wierd. I don't see any other penetrations in the floor board for the other original shifter. Not sure if this is the special shifter that you are talking about. I will get pictures.

To rust on the truck floor either. Looks like it has never been replaced either. This car keeps getting more interesting.
