Yet another new guy

New to this site. My bride and I just acquired a '69 Camaro (regular coupe - nothing special). It was previously a one owner Camaro (one of her relatives). We even found the broadcast sheet in the glovebox (VIN Plate, Cowl Tag & Broadcast Sheet all match).

Don't have pictures yet, but it's in rough shape. From reading other posts, a lot of people would have walked away from it due to the rust issues. Has a little over 80,000 miles. Two engines - Original 327 was replaced with a 287 (sometime in early to mid 1980s) when the valve seats went bad. We have the 327 (owner kept it) and are going to break it down and see if all else is good for a rebuild. Original engine had about 60,000 miles on it. The car was rarely driven and the unleaded gas probably did in the valve seats.

It's going to take a major rebuild with the body issues, but we're in no hurry. Would like to get it done by our 10th anniversary, so we're not being overly optimistic. Ton of money, but it's a project for a both of us to work on, and has a lot of sentimental value because it was in her family. She fell in love with that car as a little girl in the 1970's, and now she has it.

I'm sure I'll be reading a ton of posts for guidance and asking a lot of questions in the future.

Cool Re: Yet another new guy

First, Welcome to Team CAMARO.

Next, there's not much on these cars body/structure wise that can't now be repaired/replaced with repopped parts.
Just spend an evening or three reading though some of the build/project threads and you'll get an idea of how far gone some of these guys projects were when they started.

I'm not familiar with a "287"
Is that something like the Jeep 'Little Hemi' 4.7 ...

Re: Yet another new guy

You are correct Vintage 68. I meant a 283 was the replacement currently in the car. Don't know if it was new or a rebuild, but assuming a rebuild.

Thanks for the advice from all. Already started a log with IDs, etc. Will be adding pics to it soon. I plan to document and photograph every step. Already viewed a lot of posts here and feel confident there is hope and a lot of life left for this '69.

We're excited and I hope to someday post before and after pics. A plain jane coupe may not appeal to some, but we want a care to drive, and we can't beat a "one family" car.
