new from Pensacola, 70 Camaro

new here from Pensacola Florida. Have a yellow 70, 350/700r4, stock five spoke wheels, lotsa new stuff happening to it this month so I hope it runs better. Motor that's in it has oil pressure issues but refuses to blow up. Hard to tear in to it when it still runs so damned good and I LOVE ddriving it. Putting my zzz motor in it with a set of darts iron eagles, 1.6 rockers, FAST EZ EFI, etc, etc. Hope it's healthy when I'm done.

Hey...nice car. We spend some of the winter months just across Perdido Bay in Orange Beach, AL. so we have spent time around Pensacola. Welcome to TC.

we did the bama coast crusie last month at the whrf in Orange Beach and plan on doing cruisin' the coast this year in the Biloxi/Gulfport area. I work for the Hurricane Hunters in Biloxi so I'll stay over there the whole week of cc if the Camaro is acting right. Been trying to get up the time to take this old motor out but when you enjoy driving one so much it's hard to take it down. Damned oil pressure............ lol

Nice car Bill. I remember my 55 pick up with the six cylinder. When I went down a steep hill the lifters would clatter all the way till it leveled out, carried like 7 lbs. of pressure at idle and 15 at speed. That truck went through two more owners after me and when it was scrapped they kept the engine.

Welcome, Bill
Nice Camaro. Without any history, could be the pump relief spring was not removed when pick-up was welded onto the pump cover - if engine was rebuilt.
If virgin/original engine, just may have a few miles on her and she would need thicker blood, ie, 10W40 vice 10W30.

Give a man a rescued dog for the health of both their souls. May 2017 ROTM Winner - Thank you!

if you didn't know it you'd really never know it had some bad issues. It started losing oil pressure several months back and getting a little death rattle at idle so I pulled the pan to see what I had to work with. Top rod bearings were beat up like one of my race motors that had been sprayed hard for a half-season. The guy I got it from said he had had some timing "issues" so I think it either got hot or it was detonating for so long it beat the bearings out of it. I threw a set of bearings in it and it's already having problems with noise again. 55psi idling cold, 5-10 idling hot @850-900 rpm. Add the noise in the bottom end and that's why we didn't attempt power tour this year. Didn't want to get 500 miles from nothing and have a rod poke out of the pan. I have the new motor on the stand waiting to set in along with my new headers, efi, ls1 fans, new fuel tank, blah, blah. I wanted to change wheels but everyone told me to leave the stockers on it.........now I don't have the floating cash to buy wheels because of motor issues. lol Oh well, it'll be better soon.

I was hoping to have the new motor in but we'll probably be at BK saturday evening with the old knocker motor. If we're there we'll be near the entrance off of 9-mile rd. Folks in chairs by a mid 90's white chevy truck, a red ssr, maybe a HUGE duece and a half if he comes out. Hope to see you there in that camaro!

Bill,

The car looks great! If you ever get to the Tampa area give me a call and I can take you on the shop tour! Do you have any plans for the suspension yet?

Rich, it has some pretty good KYB adjustable shocks on it now and seems to be lower in the front than some of the others I see but not sure what springs if any have been done. I DO plan on new lower and upper a-arm bushing soon along with the later model f-body steering box I have from a 90 Formula. I have a full serpentine setup for it with all new accessories that included the metric pump to match the box. Might be in Tampa next month if I get lucky. Would LOVE to see BMR!! Thanks, Bill
