New user with a huge project

Hi all!

Figured I would make a profile as I am starting the restoration on my dad's 1969 Z/28.

Little back story on the car, he is the second and the fourth owner. He bought it in 1976 out of Virginia, it was hopped up and run all over the DC area (4.88 gears, big cam, head work ect..) for a few years until lifted trucks grabbed his eye. In 1978 he had a body shop "fix" the rust and do a respray (more on that later ) The car sat for a few years and was sold to a friend who rebuilt the engine, trans and did a minor refresh. Jump to 1985 and Dad bought his Z back. As so often seems to be the case life happened and the car got stuffed back into storage some time in 1987 or so. It has been sitting ever since, luckily in a dry garage! I always grew up hearing stories of Dad's Z but I have never heard it run or seen it move under its own power, now that all is going to change soon. So far we have removed the drivetrain, dropped the gastank and have an appt with a local body shop on Monday!! The plan is to make a car he can actually drive. Sadly the 302 was gone before he got it, but it does have a 302 built from all new GM parts circa 1980.

Lets start with some pictures from ~1977

The goal is to have a running car by Thanksgiving 2014, but hey we all now how that goes...

Re: New user with a huge project

Ill grab some pictures of its current state today. It needs rear quarters and suffers from the standard vinyl roof damage. Otherwise the car is actually in great shape and I think most of it can be saved/refurbished.

The body shop is just finishing up a resto on another 69Z so we can look at their work.

Also the Z/28 emblem will be staying in the "wrong" spot. Its been there since 1976 ha.
