Back at it at last, again!

Hello from northern Michigan! It's darn cold here, but at last my restoration efforts are heating up. There have been "starts" before, but for one reason or another the efforts had to end. In 2013 I finally got some real work done, and now my body man and I are working together to get my '69 RS convertible painted in LeMans Blue and home by spring. The long, long wait for this car (disassembled since 1990) has all been worth it.

A picture, as requested. Currently in a build-up primer. I'll try to post a whole sequence of activities on photobucket or some other site. What are the "build forums" I read about in another post?

Apparently I fouled up the picture attachment process. I'll try again. It looks like I'll have to resize the image.

Re: Back at it at last, again!

You did not miss the picture, I failed to post it correctly. This time for sure! (Ha!). Darn, I've tried four times to shrink the image size and I'm still "exceeding my quota" when I try to attach the image.

I might have it painted before I figure this out.

Re: Back at it at last, again!

The first picture above was the "as found" shot from the summer of 1980. It had not moved from this spot for months. There was standing water in the trunk, complete with mosquito larvae. It took me a week or two convince the owner to sell it to me - $1,000 cash.

Second picture is from 1981, really a trick of camera angles and shadow to make it look decent.

Third shot is November 2013. I'm working on sorting my photos for a Build thread.

Re: Back at it at last, again!

More of the background story-

The car was not for sale when I found it. It was love at first sight, despite its appearance. I wrote down the Michigan State University parking permit number on the car and went to the campus police station to see if they could let me know who owned it. Even back in 1980 they would not give out names or other information, but they called the owner for me! He was not interested in selling it at first, but I eventually convinced him that he would never get around to restoring it. As it turned out, I would still be trying to complete the car over 30 years later. Anyhow...

It was owned by a doctoral student in physics, but he sure didn't know much about physics in the real world. It would not start on the first try, the battery was dead. I came back a few days later with a friend, and we pushed the Camaro around the parking lot with my '68 Firebird (with a well placed tire to protect both vehicles). We eventually got it to pop over, then it immediately threw out a smoke screen over the entire area as a leak in the power steering hoses gushed over the exhaust manifold. Undaunted, I took it for a spin around the lot and discovered that the throw-out bearing squealed like a banshee on every shift. Quite a show, I must say.
