Re: Back at it at last, again!
More of the background story-
The car was not for sale when I found it. It was love at first sight, despite its appearance. I wrote down the Michigan State University parking permit number on the car and went to the campus police station to see if they could let me know who owned it. Even back in 1980 they would not give out names or other information, but they called the owner for me! He was not interested in selling it at first, but I eventually convinced him that he would never get around to restoring it. As it turned out, I would still be trying to complete the car over 30 years later. Anyhow...
It was owned by a doctoral student in physics, but he sure didn't know much about physics in the real world. It would not start on the first try, the battery was dead. I came back a few days later with a friend, and we pushed the Camaro around the parking lot with my '68 Firebird (with a well placed tire to protect both vehicles). We eventually got it to pop over, then it immediately threw out a smoke screen over the entire area as a leak in the power steering hoses gushed over the exhaust manifold. Undaunted, I took it for a spin around the lot and discovered that the throw-out bearing squealed like a banshee on every shift. Quite a show, I must say.
