G'day from down under

Hello to all

I have just joined up to educate myself in all things Camaro - seems to be the spot for it!
Moving across from the blue oval and back to GM, (Holden being the local GM arm in Australia) but looking for something different, enjoyable and with style = 69 Camaro

I am leaning towards a 69 pace car as I have never seen one 'Down Under' (good to stand apart form all the 'other' pony cars down here), but will be utilising the vast amount of info here to educate myself an ensure that I know what is what.

Cheers
Chris

Re: G'day from down under

Welcome Chris,
Seen several pacers down here, but never more than one in the same place (although might be different over in Perth ). Plenty of Z11 owners here that can offer advice when you find some likely candidates, if you're planning to import one.

Welcome aboard Chris - First round on me since you want to join the Z11 club. Had mine since the early 80's. Always a fun car even when it is not Halloween.

Re: G'day from down under

Hi All

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Steptoe - I though that they would be similar for my days playing with HQ & WB and my experience with mustang/falcon interchange.

ZLP55 - I will have to look harder as I would have thought that there would be a few around considering they are such a stand out car. I am new to the Sydney scene, so they might be hiding out there...

Thanks again,
Chris

Re: G'day from down under

Chris,
I don't know the Sydney scene at all these days, lived there briefly about 10 years ago, but there was at least one well-known Pacer there back then, seemed like a nice car (although it had a blower.....) and have seen several others over the years, both in NSW and interstate.
Here's an old link from the USMuscle Forum showing a few pictures of the Sydney car, if you're interested:

Re: G'day from down under

Chaps,

A question to the knowledgeable - how do to determine the options factory fitted to a car? I know for mustangs there is the Marti report which spells everything out. Is there similar for the camaro?

I have been trying to establish communications (with out success) with the seller of this pace car to get additional info, pictures of the engine bay & trunk (boot) and to arrange for an inspection if all stacked up:

Thanks,
Chris

Re: G'day from down under

As Steps said, you need the all-important numbers to determine if it is a genuine Z11. The car in that auction looks very nice, but there are no pictures of the trim tag or of the drivetrain casting and stamp numbers. The asking price is probably fair IF the car checks out OK, but there is too little time remaining on that auction listing to get all the info you need to be sure.
If you haven't already read this as a tool for research, the CRG article on pace cars and pace car replicas is a gold mine of useful information: http://www.camaros.org/69pacer.shtml

Just bear in mind that the term 'pace car replica' means a factory-built car, some creative sellers imply their cars are pace car replicas but can mean they took a base V8 convertible and created a replica of a pace car from it - not necessarily a bad thing, as long as this is disclosed up front and the car is priced accordingly lower against a genuine one. Checking the trim tag info is genuine and correct is vital.
